Claire's Small Animal Rescue

Claire's Small Animal Rescue

I provide care for rats who have been mistreated. They are eventually integrated with my mischief or rehomed with loving families. I am based in Aberdeen, Scotland.

The current gang:

BUTLER ????
Rescued March 2016. Butler was bred to be sold as snake food. Butler's life revolves around food. All food. All the time.

SIGMUND ????
Rescued March 2016. Sigmund was also bred to be sold as snake food. He is our alpha. He believes me to be his subordinate, too. Maybe I am. Sigmund gets very excited if he is told not to do something; he then wants to do it even more! He is extremely sharp and intelligent. He is an albino, and is partially sighted.

GEORGE ????
Rescued October 2017 from appalling cruelty. George had been living in a tiny, filthy hamster cage with Jonathan, his brother. They were never let out. They had no bed and had been forced to sleep on wire mesh or in dusty, urine-soaked wood shavings, which, along with the cigarette smoke filling the room, were causing them acute respiratory distress. Upon collection they had no access to water and were badly infested with mites. They had been fed a completely unsuitable diet. Little George was in a very poorly state and was clearly traumatised. Happily, he made a fast and full recovery, and has even won beta status for himself among the group.

JONATHAN ????
Rescued October 2017. Jonathan was subjected to the same neglect as his brother. He developed a head tilt, probably a result of an untreated ear infection. His balance is therefore compromised, sometimes causing him to fall when climbing, and he is understandably an anxious boy, but I am glad to witness his growing confidence as the weeks go by.
