After moving to northern Saskatchewan in May of 2017, Jay observed a number of animals, primarily dogs, wandering the streets, ownerless and scavenging for food. In August of 2017 she rescued the first puppy, an approximately 10 week old black lab mix. After connecting with a rescue organization in Saskatoon, Jay brought the puppy to Saskatoon Dog Rescue where he was found to have active parvovirus and was treated by the team at the University of Saskatoon Small Animal Clinic. After recovering from parvovirus Reebok was adopted through Saskatoon Dog Rescue.

Initially Jay was hesitant to continue bringing dogs into her residence however one September evening, on their way back into the community Jay and her fiancé came across several German Shepherd puppies, shivering and on the hunt to fill their bellies. Connor, with a soft spot for German Shepherds agreed to take the four puppies in and so began the rescue adventure for the couple who have sheltered and moved over 40 dogs in 3 short months.

With the help of local RCMP & Conservation officers injured, abandoned, abused and stray animals come into the care of Paws Up North’s frontline rescuers. Our hope is to provide them with the love and care that will set them up for success in their foster and forever homes. The Paws Up North team believes that every animal deserves a chance to know kindness, warmth and a belly full of good food.
