🍁 Fall in LOVE with an FIV+ cat 🍁

These beautiful silver kitties keep getting overlooked because of the myths surrounding FIV.

We know there is perfect homes out there for them! Can you help us by sharing these facts about FIV?

❤️ What is FIV? FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus.
❤️ How do cats get FIV? FIV is usually transmitted by deep bite wounds.
❤️ If mom or dad has FIV, does that mean the kittens do? It is extremely unlikely for FIV to pass from a parent to a kitten. However, mom's milk is packed full of antibodies so it is very common that kittens will test positive until they have shed those antibodies. This usually happens around seven months. Due to that fact, when kittens test positive, WCGHS offers a free retest at seven months. Most kittens test negative at that point.
❤️ Can I adopt an FIV positive cat if I have negative cat(s) already? Absolutely! Because it is only transmitted by deep bites, friendly cats can live together with no risk of transmission.
❤️ Will an FIV positive cat live a shorter life? Cats with FIV can live long, healthy lives, especially when they are indoor and get normal veterinary care.
❤️ Do FIV positive cats need shots or special diets? Usually not! Although it is possible if your FIV positive cat does get sick, the vet will want to make adjustments to keep them their healthiest.

🌙 In Remembrance 🌙

With all the excitement of six of Luna's puppies making it to adoption day, we would like to take a moment to remember those puppies that did not.

Sturgeon, Pink, Flower, Rose, and Hunter were all very loved for their much too short lives.

We thank our fosters Mel and Lori for all the love and comfort they provided these puppies. Thank you for each and every moment you spent trying to save this litter. WCGHS is truly blessed to have you fostering for us.

As a reminder, newborn puppies exposed to Distemper nationally only have about a 10% survival rate. Six puppies plus Luna surviving is nothing short of amazing.

Meet the "Moon litter" mom Luna!

🐕 I came up from Texas with my 11 puppies. My pups contracted distemper while in transport and we have been waiting on medical clearance for some time now.

The volunteers who have been taking care of me spoil me with love, treats, and lots of playtime. They share with staff daily about how much playful puppy energy I still have. I hope to find a forever home with an active family. I have not yet had a chance to meet children but with a quiet introduction and supervision, I will likely do well. 🐕
