DARE Animal Rescue
Daring to make a difference in the lives of animals.
Defending * Advocating * Rescuing * Educating

Daring to make a difference in the lives of animals, I, Mechelle Sullivan, and my rescue partners work tirelessly towards ending pet overpopulation and the senseless killing of innocent animals through rescue and education. Together, we have almost 40 years combined experience in the animal rescue field.

I served as the Foster/Adoption Coordinator for our local Humane Society for 20 years and on the executive board for approximately 10 years. I have also been a foster mom, a community outreach coordinator, and an avid spokesperson for animals in need.

Our emphasis is on spay/neuter, community outreach and education and rescue. We encourage all pet owners to spay or neuter their pets, and we strongly advocate for saving lives by adopting from animal shelters and rescues rather than purchasing from a breeder.

Whether a bouncy puppy or senior dog, fluffy kitten or adult cat, all of the animals in DARE Animal Rescue receive the utmost care and respect. We are their voice. It is our responsibility to place them in homes where they will be given the things they deserve: love, attention, understanding, training, patience, medical care, proper nourishment, shelter, and companionship. We take our responsibility to these animals very seriously and strive to do our very best to make the best adoption match possible, for the sake of the pet as well as the adopter. Please remember that while you may be a wonderful pet owner, we do not know you personally. That is why we like to do a “meet and greet” with each potential adopter.

Because we are a small rescue, we can only take in a very limited number of animals. Our primary focus is rescuing stray, abandoned, neglected and abused animals. If you are looking to re-home your pet, it is your responsibility and one that should not be taken lightly. We will be happy to share a packet of information with suggestions to help you find the best home possible. If you would like this information, please share your address in a private message.

We feel that adoption is not only the right thing to do but the smart thing to do. When you adopt from an animal rescue organization or shelter, you are not only saving a life, but you are helping in the fight to end animal overpopulation. We hope you will be a part of the solution by joining the hundreds of other happy pet owners who have adopted from an animal rescue organization or shelter.

Together we can make a difference. Will you DARE to join us in our mission to save animals? An animal “in need” needs you!

***OUR ADOPTION PROCESS***

1. Once you contact us about a dog or cat (more photos to come!) that you would like to adopt, we will set up a “meet and greet” where we will come to your home to meet you and your family. Not only will this give us an opportunity to meet you but also a chance to tell you more about the pet and to talk about your expectations. We have a very small application that we would like you to complete at that time. Making a good match between the pet and adopter is extremely important to Dare Animal Rescue, and we will always take into account your expectations, as well as the needs of the pet. Please note that any pets you may own must be spayed/neutered in order to adopt from DARE. As part of the application process, it is possible that a landlord check (if you rent) and/or a vet check (if you own pets) will be necessary.

2. After all checks are completed, we will arrange for you to then meet the pet so you can interact with it and get to know it on a more personal level. If you decide you would like to adopt, we will leave the pet with you for a 2-week trial adoption period. We will be available for any questions or concerns you may have during that time. Rest assured, we will make sure you are comfortable and ready to start the trial adoption period before leaving the pet with you. Remember, it sometimes takes at least two weeks for a pet to become comfortable in his/her new surroundings.

3. At the end of the trial period, if you are happy with the pet, we will complete the adoption process by scheduling a follow-up visit to have you sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee of $100. We will provide the pet’s medical records at that time.

4. The adoption fee is usually not refundable after the adoption is finalized. However, there are always exceptions. In rare cases where a medical or behavioral problem may arise that cannot be solved, refunds will be made up to 30 days after the adoption. If a pet should die within 30 days after an adoption, DARE Animal Rescue will refund the adoption fee.

We are committed to our rescued animals and will take them back at any time. This is included in our adoption contract as well. We will always be available to address any questions or concerns you may have for the life of the pet.
