Hopefully, you have enjoyed our posts in the days leading to Giving Tuesday. The goal of these posts was to show how HRI is changing the Havanese world "one Havanese at a time" and who the HRI change-makers are.
Thank you to our adopters who shared their HRI alumnus with everyone. Your pups look like they are living the good life. ❤️
Thanks also to the many volunteers who have helped these HRI pups along their journey and continue to help us to live by our mission statement.
Lastly, I would like to thank everyone who has already donated to HRI's 2021 Giving Tuesday Campaign so we can continue with our labor of love. We are happy to announce we have an angel donor who will be matching all Giving Tuesday donations up to $2500!
HRI's 2020-2021 Board Members are grateful for everyone's contributions.

Blaze, now Lucy, was adopted from HRI in 2017. Lucy came into HRI described as having some hairless and was later diagnosed with Sebaceous Adenitis. After an intensive and regimented treatment plan of frequent baths, oil soaks and medication she’s improved tremendously. She continues to require frequent baths and medication. During her foster period we ended up falling in love with this bossy, funny and spirited girl so she joined our family. Lucy has fit in with our other two Havanese wonderfully. She and Mae are inseparable and partners in crime. She’s not your typical outgoing, friendly Havanese but she’s come out of her shell and is clearly enjoying life.

Geogie was adopted from HRI in 2019. Georgie at 2.5 years old. Georgie bonded his new Dad immediately. He integrated with the rest of the family quickly; adapting to the presence of his havanese sister without incident or competition.
He did have some obstacles to overcome; separation anxiety, containment, fear of large animals, and leash walking. While we still have some work to do, Georgie has made huge improvements in these areas. He is extremely smart and communicative.
Today, he keeps track of his Dad, and monitors the household – enjoying the run of the house. He is much more confident and secure. He prefers the company of his sister on walks and while exploring. He loves riding in the car and has become a seasoned traveler, sniffing and exploring things with his sister up and down the east coast over several years.
Georgie is part of a family, and brings happiness to everyone he meets. Although he is shy at first, he becomes confident once he realizes his people are confident. He is an absolute love bug…

Flashback…
Here are some of the HRI pups from 2021. We did not place any pups in April 2021. Covid has greatly changed just about everything with HRI. The obvious was the reduction in dogs being surrendered during the peak of things to just about the opposite now. We are seeing an increase in the number of dogs asking for help for all different reasons. Once we had dogs coming in during Covid we needed to change the way we had been doing things. Home visits had to be modified as well as “in person” meetings. HRI volunteers stepped up to the plate and figured out ways we could continue to help dogs needing us during this stressful time but also make sure everyone was staying safe doing it. There will be more posts showing our cute 2021 pups.

Poppy was adopted from HRI in 2019. My daughter and I were given the opportunity to meet her for the first time while she was being fostered. She was recovering from knee surgery. If we were to describe Poppy in one word it would be “family”. She fits right in. She greets you happily each time you return home and is always happy to snuggle. She is somewhat famous in our neighborhood. When she is out for walks, she is friendly with all the dogs but also their “people”. Everyone knows her name.
Without a doubt her favorite thing is her beloved toys. She has a fun-filled toy basket that she loves to explore. She engages just about everyone in playing with her. If you accidently step on one of her toys and it squeaks, expect Poppy to come running for some play time. Growing our family with Poppy has been rewarding. She is a gift. One that we truly treasure.
