What's better than a Pug dog? A pair of Pug puppies! Connor and his brother Carl were abandoned in a cage behind Walmart. A good Samaritan rescued them, and contacted us for help. The boys did not have collars and were not microchipped. We searched for an owner for a month, and now the boys need to find their forever family. These purebred Pug boys are about 9 months old, and perfectly healthy. We had them fully vaccinated and microchipped, and they will be neutered soon. It's clear that Connor and Carl had not been living inside a home. They did not know what a collar or leash were, and were not at all house trained. They are very energetic young dogs who love to run and play, then crash for a deep sleep. Connor and Carl are friendly, happy and get along well with other dogs. They are very affectionate, devoted and smart. After working with our foster mom, they now understand the concept of peeing outside, but will still need training. Connor and Carl are typical puppies that have a lot of energy to play, love to chew their toys, but once they settle down, they are very cuddly. Any adopter will need the patience and energy to train these two young Pugs.
We would love for these adorable Pug brothers to stay together. We will only be adopting out to the Los Angeles or Orange County area. RESCUED! This sweet senior girl was found as a stray, and had quite a large draining purulent abscess on her head. The shelter vets did what they could, but she needed a rescue to take on more extensive vet care. We saved her and immediately took her to our vet. We named her Cannoli because she is very sweet! The abscess on her head is not healing well. The skin on her skull is too tight and keeps the wound from closing properly. The vet thinks she will need a skin graft. Cannoli also has mammary tumors, and will need to have them surgically removed. They may or may not be cancerous, so we'll send the tumors to pathology and wait for the results. Cannoli also has a pretty bad case of worms. Our vet got her started on medications for her head abscess and for the worms. For now, she is resting comfortably in one of our best foster homes, and going to the vet for dressing changes on her head wound/abscess. Cannoli loves following her foster mom around and loves to cuddle. We will do everything we can to make Cannoli happy, healthy and comfortable. Her vet bills will be extensive, and we need all the help we can get. In the last 2 weeks, Dexter Foundation has saved several medical dogs, all needing much more vet care than we anticipated. Meet Faye! She is an adorable 2 yr old Poodle girl rescued from a high kill shelter. Faye had kennel cough and 2 large hernias on her abdomen. As a dog on the medical ward, Faye had little chance of making it out alive. We saw this happy little girl, and knew we had to save her! Faye has already had surgery by our vet to repair the hernias and she is recovering nicely. She gets along well with her foster siblings, loves to cuddle, is well mannered and house trained. Faye is an easy dog to adopt, and an even easier dog to love. She weighs 12 lbs, is spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Faye is looking for a forever home. Gemma is a sweet young dog who wandered up to our volunteer on the street. She had multiple chains and padlocks hanging from her neck. She was in bad shape, and the chains had begun to dig into her skin. She had clearly been wandering around with those chains around her neck for some time. Someone had probably tried to help her, and she ran off dragging her chains with her. Our volunteer was able to cut the chains and locks off and take Gemma to our vet.
Gemma is a happy, healthy young Lab that loves to play and give kisses. She gets along well with other dogs, and cats with dog experience. Gemma loves to play with her smaller foster siblings, but is also good sitting quietly on her dog bed. Gemma is a big goofball that doesn't realize she's a big dog, so shouldn't be around anyone that could easily be knocked over. So no very small children or very elderly adopters. Gemma is very smart and has been learning how to be a dog, and is now ready to find her own forever home. She is house trained, and is perfecting her leash walking skills. SUCCESS STORY! We rescued Petey from high kill Carson shelter in 2018. He was an adult dog, which meant he had less of a chance of getting adopted than younger pups. We thought his underbite was adorable, and knew he didn't deserve to die! After we got Petey checked out by our vet, we found him the best home with a lovely family. We recently got the sweetest email from Petey's family. We love this!
"Just wanted to write and give an update on Petey. He is still awesome as ever. We love him to pieces. The tag line you gave him “Petey is easy” is still totally true. He’s such a cutie pie. He’s getting on in age and we love that. It’s endearing. We can tell when his hips ache or feel less than perfect and we just carry him. His eyesight/depth perception may be off here or there, slight confusion at times, or doesn’t hear as well as he used to but it’s all fine with us. We switched out his stairs for ramps so he can be with us on the sofas when he chooses. He loves to nap a lot which has just perfect for home schooling during covid. He’s never been alone and loves company to doze with. We moved in with grandma (bigger house, yard, and great decision for all of us). Grandma is a big Petey fan. Tells everyone about what he’s doing or what he does. It’s “the Petey report” to all her friends."

Happy National Dog Day! Meet Banksy! He's one of our newest rescue and has the happiest personality. Banksy is a Yorkie that loves everyone he meets including other dogs. He has only 3 legs, which made it even more difficult for him to be adopted out of the shelter. One of our volunteers met him and immediately fell in love with him. He runs and plays and is super loving. Banksy doesn't have any bad habits like barking, digging or chewing. Happy 4th of July! Please keep your pets safe. More pets go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year. Keep all pets securely inside. Play soothing music to distract them from all the noise. Exercise them during the daylight so they will be extra tired when all the commotion starts. Pets can be so terrified that they bolt out an open door, so be mindful when opening doors and gates especially if you have visitors. Make sure your pets are wearing their collars and ID tags. Never take your dogs with you to view fireworks. Have fun and stay safe!
