CELEBRATING A DECADE OF SAVING THE CATS OF DEVORE - AN AUDACIOUS MISSION
Kitty Devore Rescue is celebrating a significant milestone in our history - 10 years of saving the cats of Devore Animal Shelter!
Since December 3, 2011, the Kitty Devore Rescue Network team has saved over 6,000 cats and kittens from this previously overlooked shelter in San Bernardino, California. That's 6,000+ kitties who might not have gone on to live the amazing lives they were born to live and may have otherwise perished within the shelter walls, never to see the outside world again.
Truth be told, we didn't endeavor to become a 501c3 rescue group. When we started 10 years ago, not one among us had any idea what we were doing. All we knew was that kitties were dying at this shelter in record numbers, and we wanted to do something about it. Instead of asking that "someone" help them, we collectively decided to be that someone.
We've since learned a lot about rescue work, and we have numerous stories to tell - and this month, on this fundraiser page, we'll be sharing them! The ups, the downs, the cats, the people, the shelter workers, our rescue partner rescue groups, our veterinarians, our adopters, our supporters.
They say it takes a village. It does.
And you can help us keep our mission strong and ongoing. Your tax-deductible gift will enable us to continue doing what we do for the kitties of Devore.
In addition to clicking the donate button here, donations can also be made via PayPal, Zelle, or personal check via snail mail.
Visit your PayPal account and use the recipient email address: admin@kittydevorerescue.org.
Please use the "Sending to a Friend" option (kitties are non-taxable living beings) to avoid the deduction of PayPal fees on our end on the total amount sent.

We accept mail-in check donations, too!

And thank you so much!
CONGRATULATIONS, MYLOW!
Mylow was about 6 years old when he found his way into Kitty Devore Rescue's care in late 2019. He and over 20 other cats came to us after another Southern California rescue fell on hard times. Mylow was one of the sweetest, friendliest boys in the bunch!
Mylow is calm, gentle, and well-socialized. He is kind and welcoming to everyone he meets, whether they are a person or an animal. He's a couch potato at heart and loves to spend his time stretched out next to you while you work or watch TV. The only time he'll find somewhere else to hang out is if there's a particularly good sunbeam to bask in.
He is FIV+, meaning he carries the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. FIV is spread through deep bites, such as those that occur when cats are mating. For a friendly, neutered male, like Mylow, the risk of FIV spread to another friendly spayed or neutered cat in the household is minimal so we weren't too concerned. He's also on a special diet to prevent the buildup of urinary crystals in his bladder. As you can see from his portraits, Mylow suffered an injury to his ear sometime in the distant past. This has healed well and does not affect his day-to-day life.
KD foster mom, Rachael, and her husband, Joshua, have been fostering Mylow almost from the start. They've grown to love this sweet little man so much, even despite his health (and pee) issues. In fact, they couldn't imagine their home without him in it. So, just this past week, they decided to make it official and submitted their adoption application to make Mylow a member of their family. We know he couldn't have found a more perfect home!
Thank you, Rachael and Josh for being such amazing foster parents to this wonderful boy. Mylow, dude - you scored!
MEET SULEE!
In November of 2015, Sulee was a 9-month-old kitten admitted to Devore Shelter. We rescued her that same month for one of our fantastic rescue partner rescue groups, and, as I'm sure you can imagine, she was quickly adopted. However, through a strange twist of fate, Sulee has found her way back to Kitty Devore Rescue's foster care program in 2021 and is once again looking for a forever home of her very own.
Sulee is a demure, sweet-natured little lady. She doesn't rush into relationships, though. She prefers to get to know people well before she warms up and allows them into her heart. Once she determines someone is worthy of her love, she's happy to shower them with all her love and affection. Cuddling in bed? If you're seeking favor with Sulee, that's a must! She also loves chasing laser lights, so be sure to have one at the ready. Sulee will always be happy to play. And, although this may seem odd, Sulee has a particular fondness for Cool Whip. We suggest having a small container on hand to offer as a special treat. There is one thing you should know about this lovely lynx point darling - a recent vet visit indicated she has a grade 2 heart murmur. On the grading scale of 1 to 6 with six being most critical, Sulee's murmur is barely audible and not a threat to her health.
Sulee would love to be someone's one and only, but that's not to say she's averse to sharing space with other kitties, provided they're as mellow and pleasant as she. Does this beautiful charmer sound like the perfect kitty for you? If so, apply to adopt Sulee today at www.kittydevorerescue.org!
MEET THALIA!
Sweet little Thalia found her way to Kitty Devore Rescue when we were contacted by a citizen of San Bernardino who found her wandering the streets all on her own back in June of 2021. The streets of SB are a dangerous place for any kitty but especially a black kitten as young as she was. Thalia was only about 5 to 6 weeks old at the time.
According to Greek mythology, Thalia was one of the nine muses who oversaw the art of comedy. Our Thalia does not disappoint! Thalia is full of bouncy goofiness. There's something incredibly endearing about her, but she absolutely will make you laugh! Her foster brother Alex will chase her, then she will chase him, and then they will go their separate ways as though nothing had happened. They've worked out quite the comedic routine.
Thalia may take a day or two to get used to new people, but once she's decided you're her person, she'll love you forever. She can often be found curled up on her foster mom's chest or over her shoulder. She loves being scratched on her jaw and getting belly rubs - just don't start by reaching straight towards her face; that scares her. She also loves her catnip mice and anything else lying around that she can play with (keep your paper towels out of reach).
If you are looking for a playful, silly playmate to love and who is guaranteed to make you laugh every day, fill out an adoption application for Thalia today at www.kittydevorerescue.org!
OUR VERY FIRST FOUR-KITTY ADOPTION - ETTA, LINCOLN LEE, WALTER, AND BILLY BELL!
These four kittens are members of Momma Margery's family. Margery and her seven kittens were admitted to Devore Shelter in San Bernardino, CA, in late May when her kittens were about three weeks old. We managed to cobble together a rescue plan for them and, on June 10th, headed in to rescue. KD team member and foster dad, Al, pulled and transported them to KD foster mom Vicky initially. Then, afterward, they headed to foster mom Wendy, who cared for them and prepped them for transport to WA.
Thanks to members Debra and her husband Donald, this family, along with a singleton kitty named Alala, were transported to one of our very best and longtime members Niko in Seattle a couple weeks post-rescue.
Niko ensured the entire family was vetted once they arrived, which was no easy task! Eight members of a family to have vaccinated, sterilized, microchipped, tested... and treated for poopy issues which is never any fun.
But finally, in October, they were ready to be listed. Our adoption officers - Debra, Emalee, and Summer headed by senior adoption officer Sherri - were inundated with applications for them all month long.
Jon and Stacie originally applied to adopt Walter and either Margery or one of his female siblings. However, after their Meet and Greet with the family they surprised all of us by choosing Walter, Etta, and Lincoln Lee.
Three kitties!
If that wasn't fabulous enough, a week or so later, they contacted Niko again and asked if they might also adopt sibling Billy Bell.
Four!
The day after our adoption boxes are mailed out, an email is sent to our adopters to let them know their adoption box is on the way. We provide the tracking information so they can be on the lookout for it. After the emails went out, we immediately received this fabulous photo from the kittens' new mom, Stacie.
LOVE IT!!!
Big thank you to our amazing team that made this moment for these babies possible!
LOVE YOU!!!
The entire KD team sends heartfelt wishes to Jon and Stacie and their new crew for a long, happy, well-loved life and many, many years of happy memories to come.
KITTY DEVORE RESCUE ADOPTION BOXES - OUTGOING!
Eight adoption boxes, outgoing, for ten former KD Kitties! October was a grand month for adoptions. Our kitties (and their adopted humans) who went to their forever homes mid to late October are soon to receive their adoption boxes!
Our adoption boxes contain a soft plushy blanket, numerous toys, treats, kitty food packets and, of course, catnip! For the humans, there's a folder that contains a thank you letter, an adoption certificate, a copy of their approved adoption application and agreement, a complete record package of every procedure their adopted kitty underwent while in Kitty Devore Rescue foster care and information about the microchip transfer process.
Who are the lucky kitties soon to receive their boxes? Etta, Billy Bell, Lincoln Lee and Walter (siblings all adopted by the same family!), Olyvia, Lindsey, Astrius, Sergei (who has been with us since 2013! Yay, Sergei!), Phaedra and Ellen DeGeneres!
Thank you so much to all our amazing adopters! We appreciate you so much!
CONGRATULATIONS, ASTRIUS!
Astrius found his way to Kitty Devore Rescue back in May of this year when a San Bernardino county citizen contacted us about a stray kitten they'd found. It's not always possible for us to offer immediate placements, though. As a foster-based rescue group, all our placements are contingent on one of our foster parent members having an available open spot. However, luck was with little Astrius that day. One of our very best foster moms, Aileen, had recently had a few adoptions and was able to make space for this little guy.
The finder told Aileen that there might be something wrong with his leg, that he was limping. Aileen made an appointment with one of our trusted veterinarians for an exam and possible x-rays. Turns out, this wee little kitten who was less than two months old had a broken pelvis!
Although Astrius wanted to shine and orbit around the house like the bright and sparkling supernova that he was, our vet insisted on crate rest for an entire month. To put it mildly, Astrius wasn't a fan of confinement - but it did the trick! He healed. And boy, when he was finally able to do so, he shot out of deep space like a rocket!
When he was listed for adoption, wow! Our adoption officers were tasked with trying to keep up with all the people interested in adopting him. Bailey was among many of our approved applicants. However, he had a trip planned that would delay the Meet and Greet by over a week. Usually, that would be fine - but not when it came to a popular kitty like Astrius. With applications coming in daily for him, we needed to move things along. Bailey, however, wasn't going to miss his chance to adopt Astrius. He actually cut his vacation several days short!
And you know what? That right there tells us a lot about someone's commitment level. Even though Bailey is a young man, the fact he was willing to do this told us this might really be Astrius's perfect new dad. And it turns out, he was!
We wish Astrius and his new dad, Bailey, a lifetime together that's out of this world! Congratulations, you guys! You're both superstars in our universe!
CONGRATULATIONS, OLYVIA!
After a harrowing wait in the shelter, Olyvia's mom, Margery, and siblings were rescued on June 10, 2021. She and her siblings had just turned 9 weeks old when the entire family safely exited Devore Shelter in San Bernardino, California. From there, they made their way into KD foster care. In California, our team members temporarily fostered them. Then the family traveled to their long-term foster home with one of our very best foster moms, Niko, in Seattle, Washington.
We had many applications submitted for adorable Olyvia, but it was Joshua's application that seemed to be the perfect fit for her.
Joshua was very excited to welcome Olyvia to her new home when her official adoption day arrived. He'd gone on an online shopping spree at Chewy.com to make sure she had everything she could possibly want or need: tasty food and an automatic kitty feeder to put it in, a kitty tree, a litter box, and many, many fun and interactive toys. What girl more could a spicy little tortie girl ask for? Everything was set up and waiting when she arrived.
This was a big deal for Joshua. Olyvia was his first adopted kitty - not a stray, family cat, or a hand-me-down kitty from a relative. This was a conscious commitment. He told Niko that when he first saw Olyvia's photo on Petfinder, he was in love!
We know little Olyvia will be so spoiled by her new daddy, and we couldn't be more pleased with this love match!
CONGRATULATIONS, PHAEDRA!
This lovely 1-year-old girl was initially adopted by a private citizen from Devore Shelter in California in September 2021. Sadly, she was returned just days later because she had caught a cold, and that's when we stepped in. Phaedra was rescued a few days after her return.
After spending time with a temporary foster mom post-rescue, she made her way from California to Washington to her long-term foster mom, Niko, in early October, thanks to many Kitty Devore Rescue team members.
Kelsey and Blake originally applied to adopt Momma Margery. However, after Margery and her kitten's bios were posted, Niko realized she really needed to ensure Margery and her daughter, Astridd, stayed together. It was essential to the kitties' well-being that they be adopted out as a bonded pair. Kelsey and Blake understood, but they were interested in adopting only one kitty. They kept their Meet and Greet appointment with Niko nonetheless. And it's a great thing they did; otherwise, they wouldn't have met Phaedra!
Phaedra had just arrived in Seattle and wasn't even listed for adoption yet. Still, Kelsey and Blake knew she was the perfect kitty to complete their family.
The day Phaedra was delivered to her new home, she didn't waste any time emerging from her carrier to explore her new house. Niko said Phaedra seemed very pleased no kittens were running around the house - unlike her foster home. She was delighted to see a cat tree, beds, toys, a litter box, a water fountain - all of them all for her! She chirped her happiness and began talking up her new forever parents, rubbing her scent all over them and everything else in the house.
Niko believes this adoption was the perfect fit for Kelsey, Blake, and Phaedra. We know they're all going to be so happy together!
Thank you, Kelsey and Blake, for adopting this beautiful girl and giving her the forever home and a lifetime of love she so very much deserves!
MEET LOLAH!
This beautiful kitty was rescued from Devore Shelter in October 2021. Although she was estimated to be a year old when rescued, she has the personality and energy level of a 5-month-old kitten.
Lolah loves everyone she meets! She has an abundance of love to share in return for pets and cuddles. She's all about reciprocity! She loves being held and given the occasional belly rub. Lolah HAS to be the center of attention; if she's not, she'll definitely let you know! Her trills and chirps fill the room, hypnotizing you for attention. She's just irresistible! In fact, her signature move is to wrap her little paws around your hand or leg and be pet.
Lolah's favorite activity is playing with a string toy. She gets so energetic, always looking for hiding spots to attack — "Lolah's zoomies galore!" For this, Lolah would enjoy another kitten around, but she does not mind being independent either; that's more attention for her, after all. She gets along with everyone, two-legged or four. She's so easygoing. She even enjoys her nail trims. Another activity Lolah enjoys is climbing. Be prepared to acquire the tallest of cat trees because this girl loves to soar high.
If you're looking for a kitty with a radiance of love, Lolah is the one for you! Fill out an adoption application for Lolah today at www.kittydevorerescue.org.
MEET BIG MIKE!
Momma Evie was rescued from Devore Shelter with her three newborns in tow in May of 2021. Big Mike was her only son. He's grown into a sturdy little guy - built like a tank and stands a little lower than most kitties. But he's an absolutely adorable, affectionate boy.
Mike can be shy when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly once he gets to know you. Be prepared for kisses because Big Mike loves to give them. Loves to receive them, too! He'll tolerate being held for a short while but prefers to stand on his own two feet while you pet him instead. Mike thrives in the company of other kitties. Wrestling with his besties is one of his favorite activities. He's quite the groomer, too. Oh, and eating! Did we mention this big boy loves to eat? Yes, he sure does!
Mike does have one special need, though. He has minor entropion in his right eye. Entropion is a condition where the eyelid and lashes fold inward toward the cornea of the eye. It can be uncomfortable. Mike's entropion is minor and, for that reason, he's not a good candidate for surgery. Instead, our vet recommends daily, inexpensive medication to address his condition. It's something he'll need for the duration of his life.
If you're looking for an amiable guy who will fill your life with good times and lots of love and affection, and you don't mind giving him a little extra by way of food, treats, and daily eye drops, don't hesitate to fill out an adoption application for Big Mike today at www.kittydevorerescue.org!
MEET DAVID!
Many of our foster parents who take feline families in need into their care choose name themes. When Momma Blanca and her five kittens were rescued from Devore Shelter in May of 2021, their foster mom named each kitty after a person she admired and who champions the welfare of animals: Momma Dian Fossey, Steve Irwin, Bindi Irwin, David Attenborough, Jane Goodall, and Ellen DeGeneres.
Best known for his spectacular documentaries, David Attenborough, has devoted his life to preserving wildlife worldwide. Our David is the dominant kitten of Momma Dian Fossey's litter. He's tough, fearless, active, yet amazingly affectionate, too. It's not possible to give this handsome boy enough attention. He loves it! Hyper playful, David loves wrestling with his siblings... sometimes to the point of being a bit too overbearing. Alpha kitty, hear him roar! He'd do best paired up with one of his siblings or another very tolerant youngster who can match his energy level. David is not aggressive, but he can be a handful at times. He'd do best in a home with adults or a family with older children.
If you like kitties with strong, playful personalities, David Attenborough will not disappoint. Fill out an adoption application for David today at www.kittydevorerescue.org!
