Paws for Life K9 Rescue

When we first rescued Walter, he was on his way into the shelter in a basket. Our team intervened as we knew he was destined for a better life, but we never imagined this…… Last week Walter was placed as a certified PFL service dog with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Fire Crew #12.

Thanks to the hard work of our incarcerated trainers at Mule Creek State Prison, and our outstanding trainer Cherie, Walter received specialized training to relieve stress and provide comfort to firefighters on the front lines. Battling wildfires can take an emotional and physical toll on firefighters, but Walter has come to the rescue.

As the firefighters were being trained to navigate their new service dog, Walter demonstrated his skills performing over 30 commands flawlessly.

Paws For Life K9 Rescue is proud to offer this amazing resource to the County of Los Angeles and continue to find innovative ways to impact the lives of first
responders and the community at large.

SHELTER DOGS IN PRISON

Timber was adopted from the South LA Animal shelter back in August 🤎 and then attended 6 weeks of free training with us in our Prison Training Program !

PRISON DOG TRAINING

A HUGE thank you to @petcolove for a $10K grant in support of our #UnsungHeroes.

At Paws For Life, we have many #UnsungHeroes: our guys who train rescue dogs to be service dogs, the Veterans and kids who suffer from PTSD, and our dogs who give their all.

This is one of our Service Dog Trainers and dog Brandy. Brandy has since been gifted to Mia, the victim of a High School shooting.
Brandy is an amazing dog and is spreading her love not only in her new family, but at the High School she attends classes at!

Rosemary the husky #A2006256 joined us at our People and Pet Innovation Center from @laanimalservices as part of our Mobile adoption program!

Her meet and greet went extremely well with her new family of two other littles and two amazing kids! She’s on her way home with them right now!

Today we honor our Veterans, their commitment, courage and devotion.
Our PTSD Service Dog Program was designed to honor Veterans, suffering from PTSD, with a service dog to bring them companionship and comfort and helping with daily tasks.

Trained by our incarcerated trainers in CDCR prisons in California, these men (some of whom are Veterans themselves) get to make amends and give back in this very important way.

We found Paisley in an overcrowded shelter and saw the potential in him quite quickly. He is now living a life of service - to honor his 'dad' and help him daily....

"Paisley has bettered my life in a way that I didn’t think was possible. Paisley has made it easier for me to be in public, he has kept me moving and making sure that I get up and out of bed daily, and he has completely been there during my depression by constantly checking on me and kissing me until I love on him and change my mood. He has definitely helped save my life in times of need. Shelter dogs in prison are saving and changing lives!

This is Opal (formerly know as Piglet #A1976581 from the @northcentralshelter ). She was adopted after waiting over three months for her now forever family @deannaphila to see her and fall in love.

Opal was eligible for six weeks free training at our Lancaster State Prison program and joined a few weeks after being adopted.

She is gaining confidence, and getting into shape, loving her training and making so many new friends!

Dogs have a way of just making life better. Our trainers are so grateful every day to have these dogs by their side.

Biscuit has been Rescued! 🥳
12yrs young and just a love! When she arrived at our People & Pet Innovation Center as part of our Mobile Pet Adoption Program wirh @laanimalservices , we contacted our friends at @grandpawsseniorsanctuary to come and meet her!
They were able to come and see her out in the play yards with her friends and spend some time with her.

As we suspected, they fell in love and were able to find a foster home for her! They completed their pull paperwork with the shelter and off she went!

Yup! Hearts bursting over here!

Rita is able to bring life on the inside out for the world to see. She captures the essence of what the dogs do for the men in our program with her breathtaking photographs. Her work brings life and light, in what can be a dark place as she brilliantly captures the heart of our incarcerated trainers and brings them to life for all to see, giving everyone involved a huge sense of achievement, pride and self worth.

We say it all the time, Rita is the eyes to the world. She selflessly creates magic not only at Paws For Life but at local shelters, and as an advocate for animals and rescues everywhere.

Our Mobile Pet Adoptions with @laanimalservices is in full swing!

Shelter dogs are coming to spend time at our People & Pet Innovation Center and are receiving daily enrichment in the form of training and play groups! This makes it easy for them to be seen and assessed by rescue groups, to make sure they’ll work in their own programs!

This was the case with Penny #A2004369 💙 @bluemandog.inc was able to visit with her and after confirming she was a good fit for them, they were able to do the pull paperwork right thru the shelter and right into FREEDOM RIDE 🚙💨💨

Penny is just 2yrs old and super sweet and friendly!
