Who is this little girl? It is Coco #A2008620 from EV, now called Hope. This little girl is supposedly 6 mo old (our vet feels much older due to tarter buildup on her teeth) and weighs 20lb. She was dumped by her owner for medical issues on 11/21. We were told she had a possible obstruction vs foreign object in her gut, taking in only fluids, and she was very thin. She had a barium test at the shelter and supposedly did not pass the barium. Admittedly, there were two shelter pleas via email that we did not look at since we are a bit overwhelmed. But, yesterday this girls advocate rallied for us to pull her and even found a foster, reaching out to people on Thanksgiving! And if that wasn’t enough, Veronica from the shelter was on the phone w us at who knows what hour coordinating to hold all food and water w the goal of getting her into surgery today. Lastly, our guardian doggy Angel jumped on board to help as well. So, today we grabbed her and took her to our vet and within an hour she was in surgery. Surprisingly, no foreign object, blockage and stool was found in her colon. She will stay in the hospital and get IV fluids, attempted feedings, and a barium test on Monday. She is the sweetest girl. There was mention of possible mega esophagus. Really hoping that is not her issue. Regardless she will get what she needs and we will fatten her up. Pure team effort to save this girl! Updates to follow.
Pupdates: 1. Rebecca from EV is now with her foster. She entered the shelter w a cut on her foot. X-rays showed only a broken toe. She was spayed and her foot treated. She is doing great. 2 &3. Peep and Fremont are now in SC. They are doing great. Both will get the training they need. Fremont has a potential adopter waiting for him. 4. Simba has done great since being pulled. His first foster worked w him a lot on basic training and leash skills. He is off to his forever home today. His new human is a lab lover, very familiar with the breed, and very dog savvy. We are very thankful To everyone who has helped Simba since he was pulled from East Valley. 5 &6. Twain and Aria Both came from Orange County death row. They are currently in training and doing well. 6. Dozier is our oldest senior. At 11 you would never guess his age. He is spunky, very sweet and now that his skin issues are under control he is ready for his forever home.@adopt_dozier He Has the usual arthritis that most seniors do, but it does not stop him a bit he is very active. He would be a great companion dog for anybody looking for an affectionate senior
Heartbroken! Violet died this morning. When we got her out of the shelter, her condition was grave. Her lungs were filled w fluid. This infection did not happen overnight. She had been sick for awhile but was overlooked. We are thankful that the SLA volunteers saw what was happening and advocated to get her out. We are thankful she did not die alone in a cold concrete kennel. But we are so sad this happened to such a beautiful dog. There are not enough volunteers who are the first line to having eyes on these shelter dogs and are their best advocates. Staffing is not sufficient in the shelters given the volume of dogs. Damn irresponsible people dump their dogs or just never redeem them when they fail to provide a secure home so they get out. Violet’s life mattered.
Violet update. She
remains in the ICU. She had a feeding tube placed this morning because she kept regurgitating most likely bile from her stomach and to avoid aspiration a tube was placed. All the fluid in her stomach was removed. The tube remains now for feedings. She has not been interested in eating and so they are going to begin tube feedings for her tonight. Her temperature remained up this morning at 103.5 but it returned to normal later on this evening. She’s on multiple IV antibiotics and medication for her stomach. Updates to follow.
Meet Violet #A1994535. She was pulled from the SLA shelter today. We received multiple messages from SLA volunteers telling us she was having issues breathing, her toenails were blue, and she was declining rapidly. The Shelter vet diagnosed her w pneumonia and she was given a deadline today, if she even lasted that long. We grabbed her up and got her into the ICU where she was placed in an oxygen tent, on IV antibiotics and round the clock care. It would have been impossible to save this girl without the huge effort from the SLA volunteers, Sandra, Dharma and Heidi. It was Heidi who found Violet this am and ran for help. We were thankful for the rapid processing of her out by the shelter staff and Heidi ‘s transport of her to the ER since we were not local and did not have enough time to get to the shelter and get her out. Not only does this girl have a lot of support from the volunteers, but she has our guardian angel looking over her; always willing to step in and help save the lives of so many dogs. We have spoken several times to the vet caring for her since her admit this afternoon. Violet is a very sick girl. Fingers crossed she gets through the night. Updates to follow.
#A1743358. PLEASE SHARE! This poor boy needs help to get out. Deadline TODAY, Saturday the 20th. Looks like he may have been hit by a car so needs medical care.
Champ #A1760010 from WV death row is out. He was Orange alerted w a deadline of tomorrow due to an ulcerative mass. We were contacted by someone interested in him. Since there was no rescue interest so we were happy to help. We went to visit him yesterday at the shelter to check out his mass and happy to find it was movable and not adherent so it will be easier to remove. He went straight to the vet after being pulled today. He had an exam and blood draw. He is scheduled for mass removal and neuter on Monday. This boy had quite a few people advocating for him and a guardian Angel who consistently helps our rescues. Updates to follow.
#A1649618 Why is a puppy, a lab mix no less, in the Riverside killing shelter? Really surprised, but it could be because she has only two social media posts. Let’s share Darla to help her get out. She apparently has a foxtail abscess which is easily treated. Please share !
Pupdates: we are sooo behind on our pupdates! 1. Eme from EV, now Blanco, went to a new trainer today. It’s the next step for him in preparation for a forever home. Blanco is a challenge because he is deaf but he has made great progress so we have hope that soon he will be ready. 2. Dozier is doing great! He has such a great foster who introduced him to his first puppachino. 3. Duke is a senior sweetheart! He was neutered on Monday and doing great. His labs came back normal so other than his arthritis he is doing great. 4. Buddy is a high maintenance sweetheart. He is recovering from his eye surgery and it’s nearly impossible to keep a cone on him. He was neutered on Monday so next step is training. He loves people and gives loads of kisses but he is like a bull in a China shop. He needs to learn basic commands and to calm down a bit. His shoulder wound is healed. His eye was perfect w his first surgical follow up so thankfully he will have sight in one eye if all continues well in his recovery.
Look at this stunning boy. We have no idea where the husky rescues are at? Maybe because not a lot of networking for OC. @petpardon is trying to help but OC dogs need so much more help. This is Raddish #A1729078 , don’t hold his name against him. He is so stunning. Again, where are husky rescues? This boy escaped OC death row the other day. He came out the same time as Henri so we could not capture his freedom walk because he was already in his crate in the car! We are so appreciative of the staff at OC, particularly one who works with the majority of our rescues. She provides invaluable insight into our rescues that we can in turn pass on to our trainers. That coupled w the videos and profiles from OC, it make our life so much easier. The usual horrible notes which we ignore. All dogs deserve a chance!!Fortunately we have an Arsenal of fantastic trainers who work with us that we pass notes on to. This boy nicely exited his crate w one of our trainers without issue. He will decompress and then get what he needs in order to help him find a forever home. We are so fortunate to have a guardian Angel circling all of our rescues to ensure they get what they need. Updates to follow.
Meet Henri! #A1733140 This boy was so nervous as he exited OC death row. He did not want treats and pooped in his crate as we pulled out of the shelter. Henri was sched to be killed but as w all of our rescues the staff has been great in helping us get these dogs out. (Really wish more rescues would come back and help out). Henri was so stressed in his kennel at the shelter he actually broke the kennel bars! He was a bit disheveled but that will change. He will decompress and then get some training. He met his trainer who got him out of his crate and walked him a bit without incident. Updates to follow.
OMG! #A1644533 look at this face. Saint is just a baby at one year old. Does it look like he should be killed? He should not be in the shelter and facing death. We all know, Riverside dogs are at risk and can be killed at any time. They should all be considered urgent. PLEASE SHARE. He needs your help.
