October isn't over quite yet, and we'd like to highlight our next Underdogs. #subarulovespets
Our barn cats (or our Mighty Mousers we like to call them) are one of our biggest underdogs. These cats are not like indoor cats who want attention from humans, snuggles, and will lay at your feet at the end of the bed. Our Might Mousers thrive on little to no human interaction and contact. They are most happiest when they're by themselves and have a job to do, like catching mice.
Our Mighty Mousers are our Underdogs as a lot of potential adopters are looking for cats that will seek human affection and look for companionship, so when cats like our Mighty Mousers go up for adoption, their length of stay is extended because of their personality.
Even though they do not have the same attitude towards humans as indoor cats do, they still deserve a safe and loving home. These Mighty Mousers will flourish most in a barn or shop environment, preferably a place where they will not be disturbed. They are reliant on other cats for their socialization since they don't like people very much, so if an adopter does not have a barn cat already in the home, we will send them in pairs.
Pictured below are all of our available barn cats. Their adoption fee is only $10, $20 for two. If you are interested in adopting a Mighty Mouser, please apply for our barn cat program here: https://www.cofpets.com/programs/barn-cat-placement/ and we would be more than happy to move forward with you in getting these wonderful cats a home.

Today, we would like to highlight our next Underdog, Clem. Clem is an 8 month old Shar Pei mix. Although he is very cute (and so unbelievably sweet) he is one of our Underdogs.
Clem came to us as a stray in September and we noticed his eyes were looking a bit gunky. After being seen by our veterinarian, we found out he has a bilateral entropian.
A bilateral entropian is where the eyelids curl inwards rather than outwards. This causes the eyelashes to curl in as well, causing irritation and in some cases, damage to the eyes.
Clem is our Underdog because our pets with medical concerns often get overlooked for adoption. This may be because some adopters are concerned about adopting a pet who will need medical care after adoption, or maybe because they do not have the resources and ability to care for a pet who will need medical attention. These are valid reasons.
Clem is a young dog who deserves a home that can provide him with medical care, a safe and welcome environment, and lots of snuggles and attention. Although he has a bilateral entropian, Clem would make a great addition to any home.
Clem will be at Grand Forks Subaru tomorrow from 11:00am - 1:00pm and will be available to adopt on site. If you aren't looking to adopt, but know someone who is, send them our way! We hope to see you out there. #subarulovespets

This October, Circle of Friends Animal Shelter is partnering with Grand Forks Subaru for Subaru Loves Pets Month. We extend our greatest thanks to Subaru for this wonderful opportunity to give us a platform for our pets.
#SubaruLovesPets
All throughout October, we are highlighting our "underdogs." These are pets that often get overlooked due to injury, illness, certain personality traits and other reasons. Throughout this month, we will be highlighting our own Underdogs. We would like to start with our biggest underdog, Meatloaf.
Meatloaf came to us as a stray on April 17th, 2021. He has been with us for a total of 171 days. During his first month with us, he tested positive for FeLV (feline leukemia). Feline leukemia is a disease that attacks the immune system, meaning that it is harder for him to fight off illnesses that a cat without FeLV would fight off quickly. On average FeLV+ cats live about 2-3 years after diagnosis.
Meatloaf is 2 years old, neutered and is up to date on all vaccinations. His foster home has a lot to say about him. "Meatloaf is quick to make himself comfortable at home. He enjoys sitting in the window and watching the critters run around outside. Although he doesn't like to snuggle much or be picked up, he loves to be with you." Meatloaf is also quick to make someone his "person." He loves to follow you around the home to watch what you're doing and to be included on what's going on.
Because of Meatloaf's diagnosis, we are looking for a home that does not have any other cats.
Meatloaf has been more than ready to find his forever home. Although his foster home is more than comfortable for him, it's time he found a home to spend the rest of his life in.
To visit with Meatloaf, please contact adopt@cofpets.com to set up a visit with this lovely boy.
