This Giving Tuesday, we would like to share with you some of the stories of this past year. Stories that will show you that our mission is more crucial than ever before. 🧡

Our first story is about Sergeant, who was just recently rescued among a few other cats from an uninhabited house in Albany. He was in rough shape. As soon as we took him into our shelter he must have known he was safe because he immediately was a total sweetheart to our volunteers. You can see in his picture how happy he is now that he is warm, fed, and received medical attention.

Our next story is of a major rescue that began in April 2021, where we were contacted by a man in Nassau that asked for help with a couple of cats that needed to be spayed and neutered. When our team showed up there were dozens of hungry cats around the property. This massive rescue effort lasted months, and in total 97 cats were rescued! 70 were kittens; 27 adults with 15 of the adults being unspayed females. Of these cats, 46 have been adopted.

Our most recent major rescue operation is ongoing, although reaching its conclusion very soon. To date, we have 38 cats and kittens from this situation, with at least two cats that still need to be rescued. Thanks to Whiskers and your generosity, six pregnant mamas gave birth in the safety of their Whiskers foster homes. If Whiskers had not intervened, these particular situations could have easily rivaled that of the colony in Nassau.

These stories show just a small window into the work we do here at Whiskers. In 2021 we rescued a total of 249 cats - almost 100 more than in 2020, many of which needed intense medical intervention. So far, in 2021, we have 234 adoptions and 330 total cats in our care between our shelter and foster homes. The financial weight of this work is heavy, and without donors like you, none of this work would be possible. 🙏

As we are an all volunteer organization, every penny donated to us goes directly towards saving these precious lives. We are so very thankful for the financial support we receive from generous donors just like you...thank you! 🥰

Forever home needed! 🏡 Manhattan is only one years old and a very sweet girl who loves to cuddle and be pet. She is playful and loves to hang out with humans, she even greets her foster family at the door! 😻

Manhattan is positive for Feline Leukemia Virus but is otherwise in good health. She could live with other FeLV cats as well as dogs. 🐶
