Sweet Marley is a 2.5 year old shiba inu mix (weighing 17kg/37lb) who was rescued from an owner who raised dogs to sell to the meat trade.
She is a happy girl who is always smiling and wagging her tail. Marley's favorite thing in the world is to play, whether with other dogs, people, or entertaining herself. She gets along well with dogs of all personalities and is a great playmate. She is house trained and loves her chew toys, although she is not destructive in the home, walks well on leash (although she does pull a bit in the beginning when excited, and rides well in the car.
When meeting new people, Marley can be a bit shy. It takes her a few minutes, but she warms up pretty quickly. Despite this, she is quite independent (she is part shiba afterall!) And can be sensitive and tentative in New situations she is unsure of.
Marley is gentle, quiet, social, and obidient. She would do best with an active family who enjoys the outdoors, but also have a comfortable bed to lie on after her walks and playtime. She would prefer to have a house with a secure yard, and would do great as a second dog with a friendly sibling who loves to play as much as she does.

Meet Sophie! She is not an official FKD alum, but we consider her to be an honorary one who is a loud and proud supporter of many animal, social, and environmental causes!
Sophie was born to a mother who was used for breeding in a puppy mill in Korea. She was so over bred she was was weak and thought to be no longer able to produce puppies, so she sent to be euthanized. However, it was discovered she was indeed pregnant, eventually giving birth to a litter which included Sophie.
Both Sophie and her mom were very weak from the ordeal - her mom from years of neglect and breeding, and Sophie as a result of her mom's weakened health. It took months for both to regain their health, and even so, dogs like Sophie continue to deal with long term health and complications as a result of being bred to be unnaturally tiny.
Sophie was not born teeny tiny because her mom was weak. She was intentionally bred this way because it was trendy and in demand. People would go crazy when they saw the cute little dog who could resemble a plushie. Basing their decisions soley on appearance, dogs like Sophie are often surrendered when the reality of vet bill and care commitments come to surface.
Dogs like Sophie's mom are used solely for breeding and profit. They live in small cages and denied basic social or medical needs. To maximize profits, they spend more time being pregnant than they are not, unable to recover before they are impregnated again. When they are no longer useful (and thus, no longer profitable), they are sold to dog meat trade, at auction, or euthanized.
Puppy mills exist everywhere around the world, and right here in our backyards - because humans create a demand for them. Dogs like Sophie's mom suffer tremendously as a result. Dogs like Sophie exist because there is demand for a certain physical feature of a dog with no consideration of health, and no commitment to meeting those needs when they arise.
Shelter dogs are not made, they are born. Millions are euthanized each day because they do not have homes. Hundreds of thousands will spend their entire lives at shelters never knowing a loving family or home. Please don't create more shelter dogs.

These are Suzie and Rosie's babies, and they are now ready for adoption! Chadol, Chanson, and Chawoo (Suzie's babies) and Rolie, Olie, and Polie are now 6 months old (and about 4kg/9lb) and waiting to be a part of a forever family.
These babies were born after their mothers Suzie and Rosie were rescued from the Yongin dog meat restaurant. They were kept at the back of the restaurant in cramped cages waiting for slaughter.
All the puppies have very gentle, submissive, and affectionate personalities towards both people and other dogs, but they are still young and figuring out the world. Adopter's should be aware that although these puppies were born into our care and have only known love and kindness, they have very little life experience due to their young age and know little about life outside the shelter. This means cars, bicycles, elevators, etc will all be new to them and may take them some time to adjust.
Their ideal families should be committed to continue socializing them with people and other dogs, and gradually introducing them to the great big world. A household where someone will be home for the majority of the day is ideal.
Although we never announced it, we had lost Suzie last month due to health complications amidst her heartworm treatment. We privately mourned her and promised her we would find the best homes for her babies where they would be spoiled and adored, and never know the horrors of the world their mother knew.

STILL SEARCHING FOR FOREVER HOME (In foster in North Vancouver) ποΈπ - PLEASE SHARE!
We can't believe this amazing girl hasn't found her home yet! Vera has settled in with her foster in North Vancouver beautifully. All that's missing is her forever family!
Vera is a 3.5 year old lab (weighing 23kg/50lb) who will be a perfect companion for an active family who enjoys the outdoors and other adventures. She is outgoing and optimistic, and will always be by your side. She hasn't met anyone she didn't love, whether human or dog, from chihuahua to great dane. Her tail is always wagging while she is either following her humans around or playing with other dogs.
She walks well on leash (although she will pull a bit in the beginning when excited), but looks to her handler for direction.
Vera is a typical lab who is eager to please, and pays close attention to what is being asked of her so she can be praised for doing good. She is happy go lucky, social, friendly, obidient, and goofy.
Her ideal home is someone who has experience with bigger dogs (or are able to manage them) as Vera can be excitable at times. She would require a house with a yard in a more suburban area and active humans who enjoy the outdoors who will be able to include her in their adventures. Vera loves her humans and being outdoors. Therefore, she loves being taken on hikes and trails. She would do best with humans who have the time to spend with her, as she loves her people. Unconditional love includes the good, the bad, and the ugly. For Ginny, that means cleaning her brother's eye boogers π
Ginny is a FKD alumna (formally named Dallae) who was born to a stray dog and saved by an animal activist. She kept the puppies with her until they outgrew her apartment and had to be moved to a training school, eventually making their way to our partner boarding house.
While Ginny and her brother's have brought so much joy into the world, and we would never regret their being with us, it is a reminder of the overpopulation issue of dogs around the world. Millions of dogs are in shelters around the world and euthanized everyday because there are simple no homes or resources for them.
Stray dogs may not be able to practice birth control, but we as owners can help prevent the arrival of "unwanted" dogs, especially as so many others survive in unfortunate situations. The world isn't always kind to strays. Many countries see them as pests where they are poisoned, shot, or beaten. In Korea, strays are at risk of capture into the meat trade.

Sweet little Heeyoung is a 8 month old Jindo mix weighing 12kg/25lb who was rescued from a man who raised dogs to sell to the meat trade. It became a common occurrence for the owner to get drunk and beat the dog's, and neighbors often complained of hearing the wails and cries of the dog when he did.
One day, a neighbor found Heeyoung with an obvious broken leg and reported it to our rescue volunteers, who negotiated with the owner to allow them to bring Heeyoung to the vet for treatment.
Luckily, Heeyoung was young and managed to make a full recovery. Although her owner demanded her back, our rescuers stood firm and told him he would be reported for animal abuse. As a result, he agreed to surrender Heeyoung.
Despite a horrible ordeal, Heeyoung is forgiving and still trusting of humans. She is currently staying at our partner boarding house where she is a popular girl and wins everyone over with her sweet, gentle, and obidient nature.

This sweet boy's name is Ben. He was rescued from a man who raised dogs to sell to the meat trade. We think the only appropriate way anyone should "eat" Ben is to gobble him up with kisses. He is a 7 month old jindo/retriever mix weighing 10kg/22lbs, and currently living in a shelter (in Korea) with other dogs.
Despite his dark past, Ben is a super sweet and hasn't met anyone he didn't love, whether 2 legged or 4 legged. He has a gentle and friendly personality.
As he is still a puppy, Ben's future adopter should be committed to continue socializing him with other dogs and people during his formative years. He'd do well with active humans who enjoy the outdoors and can include him, as he is happiest with his humans. A household where someone is home for the majority of the day is most ideal.

We promise Harvey is a dog and not a poorly disguised bunny. He is a 7 month old Jindo mix (weighing 8kg/17lb) who was born after his mom was rescued from an abusive owner.
Harvey currently lives at our partner boarding house and has typical puppy qualities. He is energetic and love to play with people and other dogs with a happy go lucky personality.
However, Harvey is still a puppy and the shelter is the only life he's known. As a result, his adopter should understand that it might take him some time to adjust to the great big world, which can include being familiar with his leash and harness, and being outside.
His ideal home is with a family who are committed to continuing socializing him with people and other dogs. A household where someone can be home to spend with him for the majority of the day is ideal, as he is still young.
