Update on Reggie:
We had a few rescues who specialize in special needs dogs reach out and fosters and adopters too. Great news is Reggie is safe, with a rescue and will live his best life.
With this news & all the connections we made, we were also able to find a placement for another dog that is in Mexico who is 'special needs' as well.

“Ellie Bean died this week of lymphoma. She lived most of her life in a small village in Mexico, guarding the empty lot she called home, raising puppies, and foraging on the streets from a local elderly gentleman who set food out for Ellie and her friends. She was reportedly a patient and nurturing mother, biting the fleas from her pups fur and sharing any treats she found.
 
Countless litters, 3 serious infectious diseases, a hurricane, a tumble down an empty well. A chain of people linked to rescue organizations arranged to help Ellie find much-needed medical care and the opportunity to enjoy a better life. She was rescued off the streets, rested, and received care in a boarding house in a nearby town for six months while awaiting a permanent home.
 
She retired to Oregon in a home with soft cushions, adoring family, and an abundance of treats. She strolled each day along a tree-shaded street and by a park, watching passers-by with great curiosity. She enjoyed investigating the sights and smells on outings to parks, farms, nurseries, and campuses. She was enthusiastic about discovering new flavors, leading her to a volunteer gig addressing the problem of urban food waste- in particular the fruits fallen to rot on the sidewalk by lackadaisical gardeners.
 
Despite her shy and gentle nature, Ellie took her responsibility to protect her home and loved ones from intruders seriously. She touched many hearts with the way she gazed deeply and with warm acceptance into the eyes of friends she made.
 
After only four months in retirement, Ellie succumbed to cancer, leaving behind fans & family who adored everything about her. She had a quick mind, easy-going temperament, little apple head, soulful eyes, and funny gait. Her family misses her tenderness, warmth, and soft mouth.
They are grateful for each day she shared. Grateful that she taught them the ‘Ellie wiggle’—a full butt wag so vigorous it threatened to knock the wagger off their feet.  She brought them lightness in a summer of loss. SEEKING SPECIAL HOME OR FOSTER
Meet Reggie, he was found dragging his back legs with some type of injury on his back. After getting X-rays done and further inspection of the wound on his back, we know he was deliberately shot at. When he survived the gunshot he was left to fend for himself and now drags his little body around looking for food to survive.
Reggie’s is only 4-5 months old. The bullet severed his spinal cord completely. He will be a special needs dog for the rest of his life.
Reggie was rescued by Turquoise Paw Rescue after they found him wounded on the Navajo reservation. They do not have the resources to help Reggie find an adoptable home but I know WE CAN!
He is currently at a vet in Moab, Utah and we are told only has 4-5 days before he has to leave so we have to act fast and find him a place to go and then work on transportation to the PNW.

Mamma dog was rescued from Jefferson County and gave birth to 8 puppies. All are in foster and doing great.

Who had the chance to meet Bones at our Bingo event last night?! Bones is an adorable little-legged eye-patch wearing mixed-breed boy who’s approximately 10 weeks old and around 9lbs. Bones and a few littermates were rescued right here in Central Oregon. He’s such a cute guy who’s really playful, loves everyone and he’s a lot of fun to hang out with. We believe he’s deaf, but that doesn’t stop his desire to explore, play with gusto and to have such a happy attitude about meeting everyone and making new friends. He is like your typical puppy in that way where he’s outgoing and does well meeting new people and other dogs, but kids and cats are unknown at this time. He enjoys playing and romping in the yard with his siblings and foster dog buddies, but when it’s time to rest he sleeps hard. Bones needs a family or BFF who is ready for the commitment to raise a puppy, and someone who is home most of the time to tend to all of his puppy needs. Bones was rescued in Central Oregon and is being fostered in Bend with hopes to soon land in the home of his loving forever family. Pupdate!
Pulga was found abandoned on the streets of Valladolid, Mexico in spring of 2021, and was estimated to be about 2 years old. Fortunately, the rescuers found her to be perfectly healthy. She acted like she had been with a family at one point in her life, so she was quickly selected to fly up north. Her sweet face attracted attention quickly, and in no time her new family was found, ready to welcome Pulga (now named Trixie) to their home. Here’s the update from Pulga’s mom.

“From the moment I picked her up from the airport till this very second she has made our hearts smile and our 15 year old Winston/her new elder brother got a new lease on his life after losing his brother the year before. We couldn’t have chosen a better name for her. She is full of zoomies, snuggles and go go go! Her fur has grown back completely, and her sweet natural mohawk is a show stopper! Everywhere we go, people flock to her.

Thank you for what you all do, and bringing so much joy to our lives, and making our family complete!” - Trixie’s mom. Trixie and her forever family live happily in Central Oregon.

This $5 Friday is a somber one and we need your help to make it once again a happy ending. We want to share Stella’s story in hopes to find her a family where she can love and be loved as much as she was with her first family.
Stella was our 103rd rescue for SDH back in 2017 (today we are almost at 2k, thanks to all of you!). She was rescued in South Korea after being found in poor health, she came here and quickly found her place in Bend with a lovely lady. The two of them were inseparable until the day her mamma passed recently. Stella was the most loyal animal and is now stressed, traumatized and having a hard time adjusting without her.

We were asked by the family to help find Stella a new home and we are honored to do so but need your help. Stella is not a fan of men, but does like women, kids, cats and other dogs. Her bio is on her website for more info.

Meet Keg! Keg is a super handsome mixed-breed boy who’s approximately 10 weeks old and around 16lbs. Keg and his litter mates were rescued right here in Central Oregon. Keg’s a very relaxed and chill pup who seems to prefer laying around on or by his person. He’s a huge cuddle-bug in the making. Keg does well with all people and other dogs, but cats are unknown at this time. He’s learning the ropes of potty-training, but he’s not quite there yet. His adorable floppy-ears and beautiful gray-colored eyes will just make you melt. Keg will need a family or BFF who is ready for the commitment to raise a puppy, and someone who is home most of the time to tend to all of his puppy needs.
