Almost--but not quite--HOPE dog Buddy's parents, Dave and Zara, had this update to share:
"In August 2019, after CPAA pulled Buddy from Philly ACCT, Dave and I had planned to foster Buddy for 3 days before he went into the HOPE program. In less than 10 minutes, Buddy hit it off sooooo well with our 11 year-old tripod rescue girl, Brownie... It was true companionship for each at first sight. After just a day and a half, we are proud to say we became foster failures!
Buddy has been in training, thanks to former HOPE trainer Amy Powell, and he has become a 54 pound cuddly lap dog and bed hog. Though probably not as well trained as a true HOPE dog, he is getting there! There's not a dog or a human that Buddy does not like or cry to meet.
Recently Buddy and Brownie went on a trip to Arizona and California with us in our RV. Brownie has shown him all the sites that she had seen previously, and he did very well as an ambassador of the breed.
Buddy stretches out on the grass or lounges on the deck in summer but really enjoys bouncing and chasing snowflakes followed by lying by the fire. Our home is his....as you can tell. He's spoiled, he deserves it, he listens, he cares, and he comforts. We don't know his story before coming to live with us, but he is sweet, thoughtful of all other dogs, and we're happy to have him in our family!"

"Hi everyone! I’m Gracie, or Gracie Monster, as my parents call me. I am a 2016 Graduate of the HOPE Program. I have settled into my home very well. I really enjoy walks , belly rubs, sun tanning on the deck, and being on Mom’s work zoom calls. I also love hearing how cute I am, and 'look at those ears.' In the past year, I have been enjoying mom working from home, so I always know where she is and she can take breaks to play with me. Then I get all excited again when Dad comes home. Mom says I am big cuddle bug and lap dog, even at 60 pounds. I’m so lucky my parents found me. I’m also very spoiled by my grandparents and mom and dad’s friends. I am always getting toys and treats. I am thankful for the HOPE program and all the work they did with me. Now I have a wonderful family of my own. Thank you HOPE."
Hi friends! It’s me, Maxwell! The nice folks from HOPE rescued me from Philly ACCT in August 2019. I just wanted to check in and tell you how GREAT things are in my forever home. My mom and dad are crazy about me and are always telling me what a good boy I am! I love going on walks, hikes, spending time with my hooman siblings when they come home and playing in my yard. I go to day camp one day a week and am a good boy there too! All the ladies there love me. I really hit the jackpot!
I’m super smart, funny, and do crazy things like fly down the steps only touching about three of them along the way just to hear my mom say "be careful Maxwell!" - it’s so great to have this much love. She doesn’t know it, but I do it on purpose, just to hear her say that.
Thank you HOPE for giving me the chance to have my best life!

One of HOPE's amazing former inmate handlers rescued these two from the streets of Philadelphia. Their names are Deuce and Logic. As you can tell from this photo, they are quite bonded!. Thank you Stephen Shih for rescuing these two and for being an inspiration and example for all of us!.
Just because...
We received this photo of former HOPE dog Sammy (formerly Toad) from his mom. Sammy (tan) is pictured with his brother Bruce. She said that they always lay in this position--apparently twin sons from different mothers!
"Good morning, everyone! Former HOPE dog Trevor checking in! I've been in my fur-ever home for almost three years, and I am loving it! I LOVE belly rubs and my favorite toy is my orange football (as you can see in my photo). In fact, I always carry it with me! I have a huge deck that I love to stretch out on to survey my huge domain. I also have a fur-sister named Piper, who I adore, and love to play with. We have the bestest time!
Thanks to the HOPE volunteers, trainers, and the wonderful inmates, I am living my best life! I couldn't be happier! Wishing everyone a beautiful spring!"
This is from one of HOPE's long-time, wonderful handlers, Stephen. We were blessed to have Stephen's participation in HOPE and continue to be blessed by having him as a volunteer. Heartfelt thanks to Stephen for sharing this.
"Those of you who know me know that I did time. What is less commonly known is what the time did to me. The time took every bit of hope from my heart and made me a monster. What saved me from that was a dog. A H.O.P.E. dog. This is the differential cover on my company truck the Undertow. Nobody will see it but I know. And now you do, too."
CPAA rescued former HOPE dog Madison from downtown Harrisburg. Based upon her condition, we believe she was used as a bait dog. Despite her horrible past, Madison is the sweetest girl and absolutely thrived in the HOPE program! Madison recently checked in to let us know how she is doing:
"My mom adopted me from the Hope program in September of 2015. She saw me on Facebook and said it was love at first sight. I have a mom and my human grandpa who I love lots because he always gives me snacks. I also have lots of human aunts and uncles that love on me and buy me things. As you can see I'm pretty spoiled and my favorite thing to do is snuggle up with mom on the sofa and our blanket. Mom says I'm so spoiled. I have 4 beds and lots of coats, sweaters, pajamas and toys. Mom even had a portrait painted of me by Cheddar Paws. She also said I'm her ride or die girl and she takes me with anywhere she can. I really like going in stores because I get treats. Mom and I also keep up with all my training that the wonderful people at the HOPE program taught me. Mom and I are very grateful for all the work that the HOPE program does to help dogs like me to find our furever home. You all are the best!"
Y'all might remember the Toadster (Toad), the big, lovable lug that CPAA rescued from Philly ACCT in 2019. We fell in love with his sweet face immediately and took him right in to the prison! He excelled in the HOPE program and found the most perfect home where he is loved unconditionally. His name is now Sammy (brown dog in the photos), and this is what his parents have to say about him:
Sammy is doing great! During covid he has been dividing his time between using our American Bully Rescue, Bruce (adopted October 28, 2020) as his own personal pillow and engaging in kid/Pitbull snuggle pile-ups. Sammy and Bruce eagerly attend virtual school every morning on the futon with our youngest son. He loves going on walks and yelling at the deer and fox around here. He also loves being a brat and stealing dish towels when he feels he's not getting the proper attention he thinks he deserves. We love him to pieces but can't wait until covid blows over and we can get back to socializing him again and continuing his training.
THIS is the life we want for every dog!
Some HOPE adopters love the HOPE program so much and what it does for the dogs that they are repeat adopters. Some are even three-peat adopters-- like Mike and Julie-- who also have a special place in their hearts for senior dogs. Here's an update from their HOUSE OF HOPE!
Tyler (standing), 2009 HOPE graduate and Hurricane Katrina rescue, is at least 17 years old and doing well with just a few age-related mobility challenges. He is smart, easy-going, and loves being king of the house! Shadow (right), another senior and 2019 HOPE graduate, is deaf now and a little wobbly on his back legs, but he is healthy, happy and living his best life with as much sofa time as possible. Since he can't hear us, he follows us from room to room, just like a 'shadow.' Tux (middle), the youngster and a 2020 HOPE graduate, found that family life suits him perfectly! He won the hearts of the foster family who took him in when the program was suspended last March. Thanks to HOPE trainer Lynzee Cranford, Tux continues to learn and improve (and so do his parents). He loves walks, playing with his jolly ball outside, snuggling, and belly scratches. Lucky (left) is not a HOPE dog, but as a frequent house guest and Tux's BFF, she is part of the family and is loved just as much as the boys!
Hi everyone! Remember me?? It's Ace, aka Ace Face! You might recall that I spent 485 days in prison, longer than any other dog in the HOPE program!! I am so thankful for everyone that helped get me to my furever home! I now have a mom, dad, and 4 human brothers and sisters. Since my family adopted me, I've gone on daily walks, hikes, and zoom meetings for soccer, middle school science, and high school English. I'm a momma's boy fur real! She buys me really nice house sweaters and outdoor coats, as you can see in the photos. I spend most evenings checking on the children and snugged up next to my mom on the loveseat. I can't imagine what my life would be like right now without the help of the HOPE volunteers and inmate handlers at SCI-Camp Hill. Thank you HOPE DOGS! Love, Ace♠️❤️
P.S. I still know all my 8 old tricks + High 5 + 1 in progress
Former HOPE dog Skeeter, popped in to say hello!
"Hello! I'm Skeeter, aka Mama's boy. I was adopted December 2019, and I'm settling in pretty well with my fur-brother. We like to play with our toys, each other, and run around the yard. I've come a long way but am still a little afraid of some loud noises. My mom and dad keep telling me it's okay, that the sounds won't hurt me, and that makes me feel a bit better. I know a lot of people miss me at the prison, but I sure am grateful for the warm and loving home I live in now. Thanks to the HOPE program, and everyone that worked with me in helping me overcome my fears."
