Bama, who is still available for adoption, has a message for you. We are looking for donations for our Holiday Auction. If you have any items you’d like to donate, please reach out to @squiccimara67
You may remember Remi! His owners asked to surrender him, we found a foster and then they disappeared and backed out of surrendering him. Fast forward - the wife is requesting he be surrendered again.
Name: Remi
Sex: Male
Age: 18months
Weight: 75lbs
Dog friendly: Yes
Cat friendly: Unknown
Kid friendly: Yes Due to energy, would be more suitable with older children.
Location: Canton, GA
Medical: UTD on all vaccines, neutered, HW negative
Notes:
Remi is an owner surrender due to multiple circumstances beyond his control. Remi's people recently had a new baby. The wife is primarily responsible for Remi for much of the day and she is unable to handle Remi sufficiently due to health issues, caring for the baby, lack of a fenced yard and Remi still having young Rottie energy. She is concerned that Remi is not receiving enough time, attention and outlet for his energy and that may lead to an accident with her or the baby.
We had found a foster for Remi. As it turns out, the wife wanted to surrender Remi but the husband did not. Fast forward a couple weeks and the husband has since walked away from his whole family, Remi included.
We need to find a foster for Remi and get him to a safe place before the wife surrenders him to a shelter. Remi is a fairly typical Rottie youngster. He has been through extensive training with a private trainer. He knows commands well. He performs and adheres to commands coming from a leader he respects. He doesn't necessarily need a "strong" leader, he responds well to those with a firm voice and direction and needs a committed leader. Initial assessment showed him to be very friendly, energetic, eager to please and pretty happy go lucky. He does get bursts of energy and needs an outlet for release that he is not receiving currently. He loves to play fetch and enjoys having his designated space, be it crate or bed.
If you have room in your heart and home for Remi, please let us know!!
After doing adoptions for a little while now, I have a few observations and suggestions to make the processing of your application easier on us and quicker for you.
When you provide personal references, please be sure to let them know that someone will be contacting them from SSRR and ask them to return their call as soon as they can. This alone ties up many applications.
Please provide a current Veterinary reference and not one from years ago that you no longer see. You, and only you, know your dog and the vet he/she goes to. It is impossible for us to guess so we have to tell you that the vet has no reference and then, all of a sudden, we are told "that is an old vet here is my current one.
Please call the vet you have given as a reference and let them know that someone from SSRR will be contacting them and it is okay for them to provide us with the information we ask for.
We all have Rottweilers of our own and all of them are on heartworm preventative. Please don't tell us that your vet said they do not recommend heartworm preventative, just to have us call and be put on hold and the first recorded message is about heartworm preventative. This happens much more than anyone would realize.
Remi needs a home to go to ASAP!

We would love to bring this young boy into SSRR but in order to do so, we need a foster. IF you are an approved foster or adopter and have room in your heart and home for Remi, please let us know!!
Due to the overwhelming number of Owner Surrenders and Shelter Transfers, we have exceeded our limit on out wait list and will not be able to place all dogs submitted to us. Without enough fosters, we have no choice but to close Intake until further notice.
Please do not ask when we will open Intake back up. WE DO NOT KNOW at this time.
Saban is a very handsome boy. At 5 years old, he sometimes thinks he's still a puppy and has the energy of a puppy. He is curious about anything and everything new to him. He is very affectionate and loving and will eat up all the attention he can get. Saban is also very playful. He loves to play tug with his humans, as well as being chased. He can be quite the mischievous guy at times. For that reason, he needs a yard and daily walks to burn off some of that energy.
Saban has been trained in basic commands but could use a bit more training when it comes to calming down. He will do best with a breed experienced owner who is willing and able to continue his training. One of the many great things about him is that he wants to please and is willing to learn, especially if treats are involved.
Like any other dog, Saban will do well with other dogs when properly introduced. He will get along with another dog but it would need to be a dog with similar energy. He is not the type of dog who will sit and accept a dog rushing or jumping on him or aggressively meeting him but would you sit back and do nothing in that situation? Due to his size and playfulness, Due to his high energy level, Saban would do best with older children, over 12 years of age and will not be adopted to a home with small kids.
Saban was found abandoned in an empty house in Norfolk, VA. His previous family moved and left him behind to fend for himself. The neighbors heard his barks and called animal control. When animal control arrived, Saban was found severely malnourished and underweight. He weighed about 65 pounds. He had multiple skin infections and was very aggressive around his food and eating area. Saban stayed at the shelter to recover for a few weeks prior to coming to SSRR. At 110 pounds, this incredibly sweet boy is no longer underweight. And, as you can see, is as happy as can be.
If you are interested in adopting Saban please email us at Adoptions@southernstatesrescuedrottweilers.org
Axl needs a Foster
NAME: Axle
SEX: Male
AGE: 1 year
WEIGHT: 83 pounds
Dog Friendly: YES
Cat Friendly: UNKNOWN
Kid Friendly: YES
Location: Grayson, GA
Medical: Intact, HW negative, UTD on vaccines, SSRR pays all medical expenses
NOTES:
Axle is a very friendly young boy. He will be 1 year old on July 20th. He's never been around cats, but is good with other dogs and has lived with 2 children who were 10 and 12. He needs a foster who will give him the exercise he requires as a young boy. He is still very much a puppy and needs to be active to avoid learning any bad behaviors out of boredom.
His owner is a single Mom who is now required to physically go back to the office for work. Between working and her kids activities, she does not have the time to give Axle what he needs.
He was a little possessive of the treats during his evaluation. He's very intelligent but seemed a bit confused by the idea of trading treats. After trading a few times, he did snap at the evaluators hand, but, there was no injury and he immediately returned to his happy self. He walks and runs fine, but when he lays down, he rests his paws in the bent position. We've seen many other Rotties do this.
He has had training and knows several commands in Dutch. He pulled on the leash a bit, but, was also very excited to be outside. We would like to bring Axle into SSRR, but in order to do that, you know what we need. You got it! We need a foster for him to go to. Is that you? If it is and you are 8 to 10 hours from Grayson, GA, please let us know ASAP.
NAME: Aries
SEX: Male
AGE: Approximately 18 months
GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS: YES (no small dogs)
GOOD WITH CATS: NO
GOOD WITH KIDS: Older (12 and up), considerate kids only
MEDICAL: UTD 06/05 on vaccines. HW NEGATIVE, NOT Neutered but has an appointment.

The original owner was contacted and did not want him back. Aries is currently being housed at a local boarding facility, in a boarding suite. The rescue that took him is not currently operating so they reached out to SSRR.
Aries has started working on his manners. He will need a solid handler who will continue his training. He has responded well so far walking on a leash with a martingale collar with little correction. He does have some resource guarding with food and toys with other dogs but not with people. He is a sweet boy that just needs training. Since he is not neutered yet, he does mark if not watched. He does not mark in his boarding suite
Aries is a super friendly boy and loves people. He will carry a conversation with you which will have you laughing pretty good.
FOSTER NEEDED!! Bama needs a foster home to go to.

Sex: Male
Age: 6 years
Weight: 120 pounds
Dog Friendly: YES
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Kid Friendly: YES
Location: Jacksonville, NC
Medical: UTD on Vaccines, Neutered, HW Negative
Notes:
Bama is a very sweet boy and has given us no issues here at the shelter! He was surrendered to us due to his size and his owner's health preventing them from taking proper care of him. Due to his size and energy we think rescue is the best option for him! He loves attention from staff and is always giving everyone kisses!
Bama was evaluated with an unneutered male. Bama was slightly dominant and used paws during play but was happy and friendly the whole time!
We would love to take this boy into rescue but you know what I need in order to do that…I need a Foster that is within 8-10 hours of Jacksonville, NC for him to go to.
