The “Safe Outdoor Dogs” Act (Senate Bill 5) was finally signed into Texas law today, meaning the use of chain tethers on dogs that are kept outside is effectively banned. The bill will be effective Jan 18th, 2022 and will also mean law enforcement officers no longer have to wait 24 hours before intervening when they come across an animal that is being kept in inhumane conditions.
We are obviously very pleased with this news and encourage anybody who sees an animal that is not being provided with a basic standard of care to report it to the relevant authorities. As well as banning chain tethers, the use of weights and improperly fitted collars will also be outlawed and any animal housed outside must have adequate shelter that keeps them safe from inclement weather (hot and cold!) and allows them to sit, stand and move around comfortably. They must be able to avoid standing water and exposure to excessive animal waste. If it were up to us every dog would spend their night curled up sleeping at the end of a bed or inside on a nice comfy dog bed, but if this bill means less dogs are dying every year from drowning during a hurricane or being exposed to triple digit heat on a concrete slab or from accidentally hanging themselves on the tether they are chained to, then it can only be a positive thing ❤️💙❤️💙

Here’s handsome Bruno riding home from the adoption event on Saturday wondering why nobody filled out an application for him.
Bruno was dumped in a neighbourhood by somebody that left him one bowl of food to survive on. For two weeks residents tried to gain his trust so he would let them near him, but it was only once he was close to collapsing from exhaustion/dehydration that they were able to get a leash on him and take care of him.
I have a soft spot for Bruno, he’s a good dog who had obviously been shown no love and understandably had major trust issues. Seeing how he has slowly learnt to trust people and realise that people don’t want to hurt him has been beautiful to see.
The perfect adopter for Bruno will be somebody that does not have any other dogs but has experience of dealing with a dog like Bruno. He has sooo much love for his foster parents and gets so excited when they come to pick him up from adoption events, it’s clear he will be a devoted, loving companion for somebody who is willing to show him some love and treat him how he deserves to be treated.

When are Roxie and Beaux going to get a break?! Last weeks vet visits revealed that Roxie has a ligament tear, possibly two, that will require surgery and Beaux will need another surgery on his knee to tighten up his joint tendon. No matter what, Love And Rescue will make sure these two hard luck pups get the care and treatment they need, but at times like this we really do appreciate any help we can get towards covering the cost of situations like this. Today’s adoption event at #petsmart has officially been renamed as BRUNO DAY!
Bruno will be the only LAR dog attending today’s adoption event (we’ll let you know why some others couldn’t attend tomorrow, today is all about Bruno!) so he’s going to take it very personally if nobody comes to see us. Odin update! This little trooper had his eye removed just over ten days ago and is now chilling at his fosters house and healing up well.

Beaux is heading to his new fosters house today, where he will be living with his three foster siblings. It’s great news for him but it’s sad he has had so many different fosters in a such a short space of time. Especially when all he has needed is a safe, quiet place to heal from his leg surgery.
