Barracuda is still very adoptable and very sweet! All the other dogs love him. Sometimes it's too much for him to handle!! He's good at sharing his toys and food and loves to hop, cuddle and chase the hose.
Bonus points for looking like a bat.
Barracuda was used in backyard breeding. He was left tied to a tree in a dirt/gravel backyard for the first year of his life. Unfortunately we recently found out he contracted heartworms there as well. His test last year was negative but the vet thinks it was a false negative since he's extremely heartworm positive now. He is starting his heartworm treatment ($900) in December. He and mattie will both be on a similar schedule of calming exercises and short walks. π barracuda is more relaxed naturally but he still LOVES his zoomies so it's going to be very hard to watch him have to sit them out for three months. Send good vibes to this perfect boy β€οΈ
Ps. In the last video that's my grey dog with the gargoyle sounds. She's been like that her whole life. She's a beta dog and everyone ignores her teenage angst. π€ she's very dog friendly. Just always more focused on her ball than anything else. The noises are her telling me to throw it ππ© I'm trained af
From constantly pulling due to a build up of arousal...to this in just one day!!! These are three videos I took about 5 minutes apart from each other. Mattie is GETTING IT. Thank you @itsme_lil_b for showing me how to get her to like sitting still π this is MAGICAL.
Can you tell how happy she is to just sit and roll in the grass?!
Don't forget Mattie's heartworm treatment starts Monday ($450 vet bill incoming). So we are working on ways to increase nose work without increasing heart rate. I used to call Mattie a mouth breather because she never smelled on walks. She was always panting and pulling. She must have smelled 263737 new smells today and she was happy to lay down for her nap afterwards β€οΈ
π <--- me trying not to make fun of this face.
Adoptable Ms. Alex
Have you ever seen a dog so calm and happy before ππ
This girl starts heartworm treatment next Monday.
For two months she will need to be kept as calm as possible, remain on leash, and keep her heart rate down. We were in a rush to find some training for her to help because if youve seen her highlight reel, she's a little crazy ALL the time. (I know I enabled it). The Speckled Hearts Project @itsme_lil_b was able to squeeze us into her schedule today for a video call.
I have been near tears all morning watching this constantly (uncomfortably) aroused girl go from breathing heavily, running, jumping, nibbling hands, and confusion.... To this state of comfort. This could actually save her life during treatment.
If a very heartworm positive dog excites its heart too much, the worms can be dislodged and move into other parts of the body that could lead to death. This training was a godsend. This is what she needed to survive and be happy. So much potential in this sweet girl.
Heartworm treatment will be $900 and donations are appreciated. Whatever money I save on treatment just goes towards her calming probiotics, chews, training treats, and spa days. She will get everything she needs. She deserves it all.
From possibly living on the streets her entire life... This girl has some obvious physical and emotional trauma. Humans have failed her before. It's not going to happen again. Especially with the advocacy team she has β€οΈ
Special thank you to
@pawsitivepawsrescues @bluegirls_harlow_luna
@the_underdogs_tail
For showing me all dogs can be helped. If not for us, at least for them. And giving me that experience to make the right decisions. She's already in a better place
And to @janined66 look at what you did for her β€οΈ you made it so much easier for me to get her the resources she needs.
Guess who just went for a ten minute car ride and didnt throw up?! Lucky guy finally got to experience hiking!
He had his head down the WHOLE time smelling every inch of the place. And he loved chasing grasshoppers in the field and saying hi to all the kids on scooters!
We gave him a Cerenia pill about 45 min before the car ride and it seemed to help!
Alex is seriously the best dog on leash. She ignores everything: People, squirrels, Frisbees.... She's been with me for a year and a half and im about five minutes away from adopting her myself. She's THAT great. Peep the last pic and let me know what she looks like ππ
Mattie is being reevaluated this Saturday with hopes of booking some training by someone with much more experience in her temperament. Cost is $150 up front.
Let's get this good girl a better reputation.
View Mattie's highlight reel for videos of her interacting with another dog in the rescue without any issues! She has potential through fences in the right environment!
She was a long time stray. She is sick. She is heartworm positive. She is in pain. She has always fended for herself. She loves people but it is taking her time to realize the people are the protectors now. Not her. She can rest. πβ€οΈ
Please keep in mind we are not only raising money for some good training... We are also raising money for her heartworm treatment. It is about $900 for treatment and begins November 1st!
Disclosure: I'm not releasing the names of the groups involved because it is not the groups who were the issue. This was an individual who made a poor decision.
UPDATE video of the interaction in mattie's highlight reel
She had a terrible time at her training session. She was to be dog tested there. The trainer was told she has never been off leash with a dog before....that she has to remain calm due to being heartworm positive.... And that she was very squirmy as well as unresponsive to basic commands.... So what did they do??.... they let her and another dog off leash together before proper introduction. Nobody was handling either dog. They were filming or backs turned during the greet. They let her charge their working dog from across a field. she bit his leg. They did not continue her training because they blamed her for injuring their working dog.
Mattie was a stray for a very long time. She is sick. She is big. She is strong. She is from a kennel environment.
Any experienced dog handler would know not to test her around dogs in that manner. Then the trainer had the nerve to send me her report card with video of her day. She was there for 12 hours. The only information in the report card were a few pictures of her in the yard and then the video of her biting the dog. So for twelve hours she was let out and handled once? The only "evaluation notes" a TRAINER got was "she made me drop my phone" and "she bit our working dog"?? What about everything else you could have done in twelve hours with her.. Does she respond to sit? Does she do well with people? Is she food resourceful? How is she on leash? How was she in the crate?
Honestly... Wtf kind of trainer is this irresponsible. She took no time to get to know the dog before letting it run wild in her yard. That's on her. And the anxiety and physical harm it put onto Mattie is UNACCEPTABLE. We are now searching for a replacement board and train program for her as I would never trust any human that puts THEIR OWN DOG at risk like they did their working dog. Their own dog can't even trust them. Why would I bring them one of mine?
Disclosure: I'm not releasing the names of the groups involved because it is not the groups who were the issue. This was an individual who made a poor decision..
Ms. Alex sits however which way she wants cause she's queen here.
Glad everyone likes the new dog couch. πππ
Barracuda is the sweetest dog I have ever met. He loves all people and all dogs. Might be okay with cats after some time. He has a lot of energy but knows when it's time to calm down. Loves submissive playmates and is gentle and respectful of the boss of the house. He communicates incredibly well with the 5 other dogs he lives with here. He does not steal food from anyone's bowl (except the puppy's lol) and is good at sharing toys. He would love a big family with one or two existing dogs. He does not like the dog park because it's too much coming at him at once. Loves car rides, the hose, laying on the couch, and throwing his toys in the air for himself to catch. I cannot tell you how lovable he truly is. He's an absolute gem. You HAVE to meet him.
Um hello handsome. With age comes beauty for this guy ππ
