On Thursday we gave thanks for everything we have, on Friday we hit the big box stores for some super sales, on Saturday we swung by our favorite small businesses to show our support, and today we got in all those last minute sales from our favorite online retailers… But let us not forget about the last day of the festivities.

Tomorrow (Tuesday November 30th) is Giving Tuesday. Each year, this is the day we unite for a worldwide celebration of generosity. This will be Almost Home Canine Rescue’s 4th year of participating in South Dakota Gives – Day of Giving and we have another lofty goal. This year AHCR has a goal of $21,000 for our Emergency Medical Fund. Every day we get phone calls, Facebook tags, and text messages begging us to take a dog or cat that needs help. It can be anything from as small as a dog that needs basic preventatives, a cat that needs spayed, or a dog that is fighting for their life against parvo.

This year AHCR has spent over $70,000 on additional medical expenses for animals in and joining our rescue. Our adoption fees don’t cover these expenses and while we have wonderful community support, we still have had to say no due to lack of funds. That is where our Emergency Medical Fund comes into play. During this year’s Day of Giving, we are hoping to raise $21,000 to create a separate fund so that we do not have to dip into savings the next time we get a call that a dog is laying on the floor at the ER fighting parvo or was found left for dead after being hit by a car.

O is for OREO

I think we have lost count on how many Oreo posts we have made. It truly breaks our heart that no one will give this beautiful girl a chance. Oreo has been in rescue since May.

We know there’s someone out there who would give Oreo the love she deserves.

Oreo is very playful and active, but does love her naps! Who doesnt love dogs with a few extra rolls to squish!!! We aren't sure of Oreo's background before she came to AHCR but she is doing great at becoming a dog and learning how to have fun! She loves Kongs filled with any kind of treats! Going for car rides are a favorite too!! She currently knows sit and is doing great at catching on to basic manners.

MARIA AND NERMAL

Maria was an awesome momma to her 4 kittens, she is pretty mellow and likes to be brushed. She tolerates other cats and dogs fine but mostly likes her own space with her human! She’s a pretty chill girl!

Nermal is a talkative boy when hes hungry and his foster mom likes to give him some soft food with his dry kibble- he loves it! He likes to play and use toys! He enjoys his foster brother Black Jack! He sleeps and eats in his kennel!

L is for LIZZIE

Lizzie a sweet little girl with tons of energy and spunk! She loves to play and run and has been well behaved with young kids as well. She does get over-excited at times and will jump and bark some to get attention, but she redirects fairly easily.

K is for KRATOS

K is a special letter because KRATOS has been with us since he was just a TINY puppy!

First off Kratos is an absolute cutie and has grown to be such a beautiful dog! Let’s learn a bit about him!

Krato’s was brought into rescue at only 6 weeks old after being hit by a car and suffering from a broken leg. They put some pins in to stabilize it. The pins were later removed. Kratos does not have full range of motion in that leg and has a slight limp. This does not stop him at all though! He is very much still a normal older puppy now and likes to run and play and still cuddle up on the couch! He knows some basic commands like sit and stay and his foster parents say he is very smart!

Kratos has been waiting so long for someone to give him a chance so he can show just how good of a boy he is and that his hard start to life does not mean the rest of his life can’t be amazing!
