Another Wednesday, another adoption story! This #WhereAreTheyNowWednesday we’re highlighting Van Gogh. After being surrendered to the shelter, this little guy felt conflicted — he growled in his cage and seemed frustrated, but would also meow sweetly and gobble up any treats that came his way. We got him into a foster home where he could decompress, and his true self began to emerge. He loved playing with his toys, greeting his foster at the door, and soaking up pets. Two months later, he was adopted! Since then, we hear, “Van Gogh is doing great in his new home. We’ve been spoiling him with good food, pets, and lots of playtime. He certainly has a TON of energy and will zoom around the house several times a day, though we know it’s normal for a young cat, and he is mostly non-destructive even in those moods.”

Thank you for helping us get Van Gogh out of the shelter and into a loving home. Many cats struggle with life in a cage, and need space for their personalities to come through. We’re so happy to hear Van Gogh is doing well in his new home, and continuing to build trust along the way!

Gray, white, and gorgeous — it’s Georgia! At less than a year old, this spunky gal loves playtime and hanging out with her pals, of both the human and cat variety. Although she can be wary of new people, all it takes is a few pets and ear scratches for Georgia to realize you’re a friendly face. When she’s not crawling in and out of her play tunnel, chasing wand toys, or hunting down her toy mice, you might find her curled up in a sunny window seat, recharging for her next romp. Today, we’re celebrating a Cat Town alum adoption anniversary! Asher initially came to us back in 2016. He was adopted, but unfortunately had to be surrendered to the shelter a couple years later. Maybe it was fate, because in just two weeks after returning to Cat Town, he found a new home! We recently received this heart-warming update from his new adopter to commemorate three years together: “He is just the best cat! I feel so lucky to have him in my life (he was adopted from Cat Town as a kitten, but somehow found his way back to Cat Town as a three-year-old, which is when I saw him and fell in love). He's smart, silly, sweet, and a champion lounger! Thank you for all that you do!”

Back in September, volunteer Kelli T embarked on an ambitious project. After noticing several cats at our Adoption Center had tiny daggers in place of nails, she started the “Trim All the Nails” program. In the weeks since then, Kelli has given many the manicure, and has even made sure to plan follow ups for cats who needed a little more time warming up to the clippers and being held. Kelli, thank you for your patience, persistence, and initiative. Not only are you keeping us safe from unsuspecting claws, but you are also helping our shyer cats learn to have confidence in new experiences. Who is this goofy duo? Why, it’s Tina and Fey! Bring out the toys, and these sisters will put on a show. In their foster home, Fey is known as a “ferocious hunter,” and will gladly show off her skills — while Tina is the more adventurous of the two, and will venture out to greet any new faces. Although they are still kittens, Tina and Fey appreciate their mellow moments, and enjoy lounging around with their people. They both love pets when they are in the mood, and are even warming up to laps. This #TongueOutTuesday we have an update from Casio! This sweet girl arrived at the shelter with her newborn kittens in the spring. Although she warmed up to pets from shelter staff, she was uncomfortable with life in a cage, so we brought her to a foster home where she could decompress. Her playful (and silly!) personality quickly emerged, and a few months later, she found her person. Since then, her adopter says, “She’s doing great! She has really warmed up to the space and likes to be nearby and get lots of attention and playtime. She has lots of space to roam and play and so far has been a perfect angel. We love her! Thanks again for checking in and everything you’ve done and are doing to find homes for these sweet creatures.”

SOS — Rihanna and Biggie need a foster! These siblings arrived at the shelter as scared and hissy older kittens. We got them into a temporary foster home where they are making some progress, but they’ll still need care and patience as they learn to trust people and adapt to new surroundings. Rihanna and Biggie would do best in a small space to start off, such as a spare bedroom or bathroom, until they settle in. They may also benefit from the presence of a confident cat role model as they build up their own confidence.
