I could not be prouder of my student volunteers at this moment.

I received a call very early this morning from Isabel, who was very upset, but brave when telling me that she found one of the feral community cats who became victim of a hit and run in the middle of the road. Because of her compassion, we were able to be assisted by the police to move her to the side of the road until I could get there to gather her for a proper burial.

Beautiful Alice traveled outside of her safety zone and wooded territory where her colony is fed and cared for.

My heart was heavy and unsure how to share this with the rest of the student volunteers, some who have been caretakers for her colony for almost a year. Not a lesson I wanted to teach.

These college students not only expressed their sadness, showed their compassion and desire to hold a memorial service, but also, out of their grief came education. They are doing a wonderful job explaining about the community cats and the importance of not dumping them to other students not yet in our Pioneer PAWS program, who saw Alice in the road before she was moved.

I could not ask for more for them to share my belief that feral, stray and homeless cats deserve love and dignity too 💜

Friday was a @Freshpet Fun Day!
#KindnessKitty adopters and #volunteers Mayor Pat and Maria picked up a generous donation from #Freshpet for us, (which we shared with two different rescues), visit with #OnlyKindnessRescue alumni kitties and come home with homemade chicken soup and Mayor Pat Merlot!
