This sweet little nugget is Misty and she recently arrived at our Westhampton location after being rescued from Hurricane Ida!

We’re always in awe of how sweet and loving these little ones are, even after their lives have been turned upside down. It’s like they somehow know that better days are ahead, and they are!

Misty is a happy, affectionate girl who loves spending time with her people friends. She can be a bit shy when she first meets you, but warms up quickly and flashes a big smile (see 3rd photo) when she’s enjoying her favorite things (good friends, fresh air, treats and playtime!).

You guys, we called it more than a month ago: Bacardi is an irresistible heartthrob of a kitty. ❤️

Many of us were already smitten with him when he was at our Manhattan Adoption Center (🤚) but at the time, he could have the occasional naughty moment. (We were attributing these to the fact that his kitty condo was in close proximation to the kennels and the puppers can get loud…and sure enough, since he’s been in foster, he’s been a total angel.)

Bacardi is an affectionate, entertaining, silly, biscuit-making hunk of a kitty.

His foster parents called him a “sweet, cuddly kitty who likes to play with his toys and follow them around the house.”

This little guy is best friend material and he can’t wait to meet his person!

This precious pooch is named Penny! She loves giving kisses and we love receiving them, so we’re pretty smitten with her! ❤️❤️❤️

She arrived at our Westhampton location after being rescued from the devastation of Hurricane Ida, and is ready and eager to find a loving forever family.

When we first met Penny, we saw right away that she has some visual issues, and is partially blind. However, she can still see out of one eye, and gets along just fine! She’s a happy, loving, affectionate pup and has very quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite!

Penny would thrive in any gentle home with older children, where she can receive the time she needs to adjust to a new home and family. And she’s bound to bring you as much joy as she has already brought all of us! We’re already envious of her future adopters but can’t wait to see this sweet girl find the loving home she deserves. This little love is Turks and she’s everything you could ask for in a kitty companion. ❤️

Turks arrived at a Bideawee pregnant and ready to pop. She had four little ones but sadly, only one survived - a little doppelgänger named Hatch. (Photo included.)

Hatch immediately found a home but sweet Turks has been patiently waiting at our Westhampton location for her turn to come.

In the meantime, she’s been such a wonderful “mom” to all the kittens who have come through the Westhampton kitten resort, and is nothing but happy and proud when they find homes… but she deserves that happily ever after too!

Turks is a super sweet girl who would love to keep your company while you work, join you for movie night, and fill your days with comfort and companionship. She’s a wonderful kitty caretaker and will be a doting BFF!

How has no one scooped up sweet Savanah yet? 🤷‍♀️

This 7-month-old pup has been patiently waiting to meet her forever family for weeks at our Westhampton location.

Savanah loves her people friends but she’s been displaying a little reactivity toward other dogs in the shelter. This could just be her having some anxiety in the shelter environment (sometimes the commotion of the shelter, the influx of new animals etc. can cause anxiety that might not exist in other environments). Or, she may prefer to be an only pet, in which case, you’ll never long for cuddles and love if Savanah is your one and only. ❤️

This 3-month-old cutie is Bell, and she’s doing her part to manifest the next chapter of her life! Step 1: Meet her forever family, and secure a one way ticket out of the shelter! Her bags are already packed, guys!☺️

Now don’t get her wrong, she’s been very happy with the service she’s been receiving at Bideawee’s Manhattan location. But, she was also lucky enough to spend some time in a foster home, so she’s tasted the good life and she wants more! ❤️

Bell has a low-grade heart murmur, which is fairly common in kitties (50% of the time it’s nothing and the other 50% of the time, additional treatment may be required). An echocardiogram can determine the diagnosis and course of action (if any is in order).

Sometimes Bell feels a little insecure about her murmur (and it’s only a grade 2, very low) but we’ve assured her that we all deal with stuff, and that she’s going to find a wonderful adopter who is going to love her to the moon and back! ❤️

Gemma is joy on four legs. She was rescued from Hurricane Ida but she hasn’t let her trying circumstances affect her sweet personality one bit!

She appears to be fully house-broken, and already knows sit as well! She’s one smart cookie and she’s eager to learn all she can! Gemma also seems to like most dogs so a home with another pup is a definite possibility. (She’d just need to meet any potential siblings at the shelter first.)

This beautiful boy is Mango and he was rescued from the streets of New York after a neighbor recognized that he was far too friendly (and a bit on the helpless side) to be fending for himself outside.

Sadly, many people assume that all cats will be fine outside and the reality is, they won’t. A cat that is born on the streets will develop certain skills to try to take care of themselves but a cat that was formerly indoors doesn’t have those same survival skills. 😔

And some little ones, like Mango here, are just gentle souls who belong curled up couch-side with someone they love.

Happy fall from Spotty Beau! 🎃

If you’re wondering what that big smile is all about, we’ll tell you! Spotty Beau is the recipient of Bideawee’s Most Improved Behavior Student Award! 🎓🥇🏆🐶

Many of you may recognize Spotty, as he’s been back at our Manhattan shelter for almost a year now (poor guy was adopted out as a puppy and then returned).

Spotty has some handling sensitivities, and can be nervous around strangers and reactive to new sights and sounds, but he’s honestly been making some incredible improvements!

He’s been much more at ease on his walks and far less reactive to strangers and other dogs (he actually likes many other dogs when he meets them in a controlled environment). And he’s becoming such a good listener! He’s keeping his cool during situations that used to trigger him because he’s learning to trust the staff, and associate his good behavior with praise and rewards. Overall, he’s trusting more and becoming more comfortable every day! At the end of the day, Spotty is just a big scaredy cat. In his previous foster home, his foster mom reported that he was literally afraid of the dark, the blender, the vacuum….But as she worked with him, he began to integrate these new sounds and experiences into his world and became more comfortable around them.

We’re so excited about all the progress Spotty is making and know that this is only the beginning for this adorable, sweet boy.

Spotty’s ideal home would be a quiet, adult-only home with someone who will continue to work with him on his training and help him feel secure. A back yard or private outdoor space would be a huge plus!

This little one is named Licorice and his story breaks our hearts. 💔

Licorice was found with a metal wire tied around his abdomen. It looked like someone had tied it when he was just a kitten and he had been living and suffering with it every day since. His body did its best to grow around it, similar to the way a dog with an embedded collar looks, but it was a miracle that his internal organs weren’t affected. We won’t share the before photos here but trust us when we tell you that his condition was heartbreaking.

As soon as we heard about Licorice, our FCI and medical team sprang into action and scheduled emergency surgery to remove the wire.

Licorice is recovering well but he’s been through a terrible ordeal and is understandably traumatized. He’s been spending his days in a staff member’s office and rarely comes out of his carrier. But we know that he feels safe in there, he’s eating well, he’s starting to feel better, and he’s even getting more comfortable with the staff member he spends the most time with.

We have no plans to rush Licorice and know that he will progress at his own pace, but we would LOVE to see him in a home, where he will be accepted and loved exactly as he is.

Licorice just needs a small quiet area of his own where he can slowly acclimate to his new life, whatever that looks like for him. In time, he may warm up significantly, or he may always keep to himself a little and that’s ok too. He still deserves to live in peace. ❤️

He’s suffered tremendously at the hands of humans, but we know there is someone out there who is willing to right those wrongs and give him every opportunity to live a happy, safe, peaceful life. ❤️
