To promote the humane treatment of animals through care, advocacy and education.
Located at 1620 42nd Street in Evans, CO, the Humane Society of Weld County's mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals through care, advocacy and education. We are a community supported nonprofit organization and rely solely on donations and special events for funding. We provide care and shelter to over 4,000 homeless and unwanted pets in our community each year, costing us $25 per animal each day. Help us help Weld county's homeless animals by donating supplies or funds.

Apollo, we love you. We love how you like to...umm... express yourself. But can we please try to not make poop art on the wall EVERY morning? We understand you are proud of your art. It's just a bit weird.
Is anyone looking for a quirky artist boy who just wants to be understood? Apollo would love to find a happy tree to make art on instead of a wall. He is the gift that keeps giving.

๐พ Fosters Needed! ๐พ
Our large dog program and puppy section is FULL. Thereโs been a decrease in adoptions the past month and these babies need a break from shelter life.
Our foster program helps dogs and cats who need medical care or are stressed in the shelter environment. Also, any babies we have that are too young for adoption also need foster. This ensures our littlest ones are receiving proper socialization during a critical time AND prevents disease from our friends who are too young to vaccinate.
We cover all cost! All you need to do is sign up and we will schedule a call: https://www.weldcountyhumane.org/foster
(PS We donโt allow holds on puppies. It becomes difficult to manage.)

Teddybear arrived as a stray in mid-August after a suspected heat stroke. She was struggling to walk and required our staff to help her out of her bed to go outside. Still, we had hope. Fast forward to today, Teddybear, the 12 year old wonder, is walking.
Our medical team has been working to ensure that she is not in any pain and has the chance to fully recover from her ailments. The floors were not friendly to her healing hip so Teddybear is now enjoying recovery in a foster home. Hopefully, if all goes well, Teddybear will be up for adoption soon.
Often, people ask why we don't talk about live release rates, despite having a 97% live release rate. This means that, as shelter that accepts every animal despite condition, 97% of our animals were rehabilitated, reunited with their owners, and/or adopted to a loving family in 2020. So why wouldn't we sing it from the rooftops? Because of Teddybear. She deserves to be more than a number and receive the decision that is most humane. We never want to pressure our team to turn away an animal in need or keep an animal in pain for the sake of numbers. If next year, the live release rate drops, we know that we made the most ethical decisions for the animals who we dedicate our lives to saving. It also means that we are confident that Teddybear is ready for her golden years.
Do you know of a home looking for a sweet Teddybear?

Ghost the Golden is ready for his forever home! Sweet Ghost came to us very skinny, but he has always kept his spirits high. Ghost is looking for a family who give him cuddles and plenty of treats. He is still far too skinny and will need someone to help him gain healthy weight.
Ghost would likely do well in most homes, with kids that treat him with respect, and friendly dogs. Cats unknown but we suspect that with a proper intro, he'll do just fine. This handsome dog is wiggle butt with everyone he meets, human and dog.
Want to adopt Ghost? Come to our facility with the whole family (other dogs included!) to meet this lovebug. His adoption fee is 50% off until Paws & Sneakers with our Clear the Shelters event.
Ghost is ready to be adopted AND come to Paws & Sneakers, the 5k and Pet Expo, as an alumni on September 11. Sign up here: https://raceroster.com/events/2021/50005/paws-and-sneakers .

Meet Nessie! Nessie is an adorable boxer mix who takes a little bit of time to open up. Once she decides you are a friend, you are a friend for life!
Nessie came to us as a stray. After a 5 day "stray hold" to give previous owners a chance to find their missing family member, we moved Nessie into our adoption program! Nessie, like all animals in our adoption program, is then spayed/neutered, cleared by our medical team, and evaluated by our behavior team. Depending on the individualized plan created, Nessie could be available this week or in a month.
All our animals have 50% off adoption fees until Paws & Sneakers on September 11th. If you were here over the weekend and didn't find your new family member, come back and see the pets like Nessie who are entering our adoption program now!

Yesterday, we found 30 animals homes during Clear the Shelters. Day 2 is today! And Pebbles really hopes she finds her home today.
Pebbles has been with us since MAY. She had some medical and behavior problems to work through. Pebbles has been available for about a month and has not had a single visit.
She is extremely sweet and playful. Pebbles has been working with our behavior team and knows many commands. She can even shake!
This little one is looking for a home with kids over 12 and no small dogs. She is dog selective, which means she likes some dogs and prefers to be left alone by others. If you have another dog in the home, please bring them by to meet Pebbles and see if they would be good friends!
Please come out and adopt today! We have 50% off adoption fees, volunteer trainings, and more. Dogs like Pebbles still are looking for their families!

๐จ๐จHOARDING CASE INCOMING! ...and we are already almost out of space ๐จ๐จ
Welp, we are about to have another hoarding case this year. Except for this time, we are already near capacity. We never euthanize for space so we need the community's help on this one.
We are having a Clear the Shelters event this weekend. 50% off adoption fees + additional adoption deals this weekend.
If you aren't looking to adopt, please share this post, come out to the event, donate, or miraculously build us some more space in day.
I know we can save these animals together.

Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day!
This is Nomad, one of four black kittens we currently have available for adoption. Nomad is a feisty little gal who loves to play but is no stranger to purring in your arms when she's done playing with everything in her reach.
Nomad, we all appreciate you. We know you are not bad luck - you are just a baby kitten. We promise that we will find you an amazing home that will love you as much as our team does.

This orange cutie is Clementine. She may be the happiest dog to ever grace Weld County. Clementine is always smiling and greets our team with butt wiggles every time they even cross her sight line.
Clementine has separation anxiety -- She just loves a bit too much. A home with someone is home often or willing to work with her anxiety would be ideal. Clementine pretty much ignores other dogs in favor of the people. However, she wouldn't mind a doggy friend. Her previous owner says she is house trained and does well with kids.

Again, our large adoption program is full. If you are unable to adopt, please email foster@weldcountyhumane.org to sign up to foster. We cover all fostering costs! Fostering not only gives our furry friends a break from the sheltering life but also opens up another spot for another dog. We are often asked what happens when we can't find homes or fosters. We never euthanize for space. Our community goes above and beyond to find flex space.

Don't let these cute faces fool you -- These kittens are working kittens. Meet our Barn Kitten Bunch.
Our working cats are adopted out to barns, warehouses, breweries, etc. Anywhere where they can live their cat fantasies of being mousers, enjoying the breeze and not being forced to hang out with humans.
Why are these kittens? Well, these kittens are especially spicy. They would be happiest without the pressure of the indoor life. We can't promise that they will eventually warm up to people, but spicy kittens can turn sweet. Or at least from red hot to mild.
Just remember... hisses get kisses.
Do you need the cutest working kitten? Or know someone who could use a new mouse-catching, bug attacking, little furry employee?

Our fosters are lifesavers. We have a limited space in our facility, and we aren't built to house certain populations - like young kittens. Young kittens require so much love, attention, and space to roam. Our fosters give that tenfold to our little ones. Then, they selflessly help them find their forever homes.
Here, we have Gopher and Lemur. They are 4 months old, and some of the most loved "cattens" you'll ever meet. Their foster loves them so much that she is covering part of their adoption fees. Gopher and Lemur must be adopted together. They've both been here for a few weeks, and somehow adopters are overlooking this dynamic duo.

We have many good ole' dogs looking for homes. Age is often a state of mind, and these older fellas are ready to turn over a new leaf.
Why adopt an older pup?
๐ What you see is what you get.
๐ง. Generally, they are calmer and have easier exercise requirements.
๐ . Many of these graying babies have already lived in the house and need less training.
Some adopters worry that an older dog won't bond with them as much as a younger pup. And we are here to say that is not true. Older dogs bond just as much (and some argue more!) than a younger pup. Maybe they just have knowledge gained from years of squirrel chasing that tells them you rescued them.
