Durant Animal Rescue Alliance, Inc.

DARA is a 501(c)3 that is committed to saving the animals of the DURANT POUND. We save unwanted, abandoned and neglected animals as we are able.

Durant Animal Rescue Alliance, Inc is a non-profit 501(c)3 Public Charity based group in Durant, OK that is committed to saving as many companion animals as we can. We care for the unwanted, abandoned, neglected and abused dogs and cats of Durant and Bryan County, OK as we are able. Our loyalty, first and foremost, has and always will be, to the dogs in the DURANT CITY POUND. If a dog is in need and we are in a position to help, we will. Foster homes are always needed to keep us in a position to help more. Our goal is to get them to rescue groups or rehabilitate and rehome them, so that they will forevermore know the love they so graciously and without reservation, bestow upon humans.

This group is not in the business of making money. The adoption fee is designed to help recoup some of the money that has been spent on each dog – at a minimum, spaying/neutering, hearworm check and prevention, flea & tick control, deworming and vaccines. The adoption fee allows us to continue helping dogs. We consider it an honor to be able to do what we do. We hope that you also consider it an honor to be able to help these deserving dogs by fostering, adopting or donating to help support them.

By adopting from us, you save more than one life! This is because as soon as we place one we can then go to the pound and save another.

We promote adoption as an alternative to buying your pet. Oklahoma is #2 in the U.S. in the number of operating puppy mills. These mills are often living hell for the dogs in them, forced to reproduce for their owners, often unloved, unsocialized and then thrown away like garbage when they are too old or sick to reproduce. When you adopt form a shelter or rescue group, you can know that you are part of the solution and not part of the problem.

We advocate spay/neuter and offer assistance in finding a low cost option for those that qualify. Spaying or neutering your pet is one of the best things you can do for them to insure they live a healthy and happy life. Additionally, they are not contributing to the over-population problem that plagues Oklahoma and many other states in the U.S.

We are available to come to your school, church, organization, or place of employment and present an educational program about our group and the benefits of adopting instead of buying your next family member.

Our newest division is the Furry Friends Food Bank. It is dedicated to reducing hunger in pets in Byran County Oklahoma by providing food to elderly, Veterans and low-income pet owners. Food distribution day is the third Friday of each month at Icon Construction 2917 Big Lots Parkway in Durant, OK from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Proof of income is required. We also provide supplemental food to the local shelter.

Thanks for helping us save these awesome dogs and cats! We are just a small few doing the work of hundreds.
