A note from one of our adopters-

Here's Penny who has joined our six other rescue kitties. Even though she is mostly blind, she has adjusted to her new home and is so happy and loving. Penny has had her wellness check with our veterinarian Dr. Mark Salzburg and is in good health. Her paperwork listed her as a stray and now has a safe and caring new home.

As you may be aware, HHS has taken into our care over 30 animals from a mobile home fire in Port Orange that occurred last week. All of these animals require medications, veterinary procedures, special foods, and special attention. These animals are not currently available for adoption and are under medical treatment.
The cost of the antibiotics alone for 30 animals is more than you would ever imagine. Eye meds are also very expensive, and nearly every animal requires these meds as well. We have already utilized thousands of dollars of medications and dedicated hundreds of hours to these animals.
The dog shown below cannot use its hind legs and will need a wheelchair device to get around. Another major expense.
We have an Emergency Medical Fund (EMF) to purchase items that the public cannot donate, such as antibiotics and vaccines. If you consider donating to this fund, we would be very appreciative. Please support our animal welfare partner Volusia County Animal Services and attend their Microchip and Pet Food event on December 4th, 8 am to 4 pm.

We will be closed Thanksgiving Day, but will reopen on Friday at 12 noon. Have a very happy Thanksgiving.

Mark your calendars for the BISSELL Pet Foundation Empty the Shelter event December 6-12 at Halifax Humane Society. $10 adoption fees on all ready-to-go cats of any age, and on ready-to-go dogs 1-year and older. Come help us Empty the Shelter and give a deserving animal a loving and forever home. HHS hours are 12 noon - 6 pm, 7-days a week.

This is Cloud. He is being fostered by Barry, our community outreach director. Cloud is 6-months old and is available for adoption. His adoption fee is $399 and he is worth every penny. Barry says, "Cloud gets along great with our two other dogs and loves to play with them. He is housebroken and crate trained. Walks nicely on a leash. Sleeps through the night without incident. Listens well, is very loving, good with small kids, and is a love bug. Not sure about how he is with cats. He does his business immediately when let out.
If you are interested in adopting this Lab mix, please email barryk@halifaxhumanesociety.org to schedule a meet at Barry's home. We are trying to avoid bringing him back to shelter that is overcrowded already. He still needs to be neutered, but will stay with Barry until that can happen. Cloud is a great dog!
