Habitat for Humanity of Crawford County, Illinois

Crawford County Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry.

We seek to eliminate poverty housing from Crawford County and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

We coordinate all aspects of Habitat home building in Crawford County, including:

- fundraising;
- building site selection;
- partner family selection and support;
- house construction; and
- mortgage servicing

We are not a giveaway program - Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest their own labor, or "sweat equity," into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. We then use the mortgage payments from our partner families to build more Habitat houses for other families in need.

We select families that are in need of decent shelter based on their level of need, their willingness to become partners in the program, and their ability to repay the loan. Neither race nor religion is a factor in selecting the families who receive Habitat houses.

A board of directors determines policies and oversees and guides the mission of the Crawford County Habitat for Humanity. The current members are:
