Our mission is to improve and save the lives of the homeless animals at Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control in Millersville, MD.

Why did the volunteers at Anne Arundel County Animal Control create Friends of AACAC in 2014, and why are we seeking your donations? Because the animals need our help – and yours! In addition to the hundreds of hours of time our small cadre of volunteers donates at the shelter each month, we also dig repeatedly into our own pockets to provide items that aren’t in the shelter’s county budget but that help make shelter life a little better for the animals and/or encourage adoptions. We do this willingly to help the animals and to support the hard-working staff of AACAC. But there is so much more to be done than our little group of volunteers can finance, so in mid-2014 we created Friends of AACAC so we can solicit tax-deductible donations to use to support the shelter.

Here are some of the things that the Friends of AACAC is doing:

• Paying the outside veterinarian bills for many very sick or injured animals who otherwise would not have made it. We also pay for a vet to come to the shelter once a week to look at sick animals there (the shelter has no vet on staff).
• Purchasing thousands of doses of flea/tick medications annually for dogs and cats brought to the shelter. Even though most of the stray animals who come into the shelter are covered with fleas and ticks, the county-operated shelter does not have funds for topical flea meds.
• Purchasing kitten milk replacement and wet/dry kitten food, plus specialized food for animals who need specific diets. The shelter’s animal food contract does not include funds for such food.
• Paying for ALL the cats and dogs that leave the shelter to be microchipped at no cost to their adopter.
• Covering fees that rescue groups normally are required to pay when they take an animal from the shelter, thereby encouraging the rescues to take more animals from the shelter.

Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Control is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We are participating in the 2017 Federal Combined Campaign (CFC #18568) and the Maryland Charity Campaign (MCC Code 471552999).
