McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center Friends

To raise funds and provide resources for the animals at the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center, increase awareness of MCAC services and adoptable animals, and educate our community about responsible pet ownership and prevention of animal cruelty.

Got love? Share it!

This page is run mainly by volunteers of MCAC with the intention of helping increase awareness and adoptions of our adoptable pets.

Missing your pet? Please call our office to file a lost report and check our database of found animals at petharbor.com. We also recommend stopping by the shelter to do a walk-through and search for a missing pet.

We are always looking for new volunteers! Anyone 18 years of age and older is invited to apply to volunteer at McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center - there are always dogs that would love to play and be walked and cats and kittens that could use some affection (and a little brushing, too). All you need to do to get started is stop in to our center during our regular hours and fill out a volunteer application.

Thinking of adopting? Adopting a pet is an important commitment for the rest of your pet's life. Please consider this decision carefully.

Our adoption fee is $150.00 for puppies 6 months and under, $125.00 for puppies/dogs over 6 months old, $100.00 for kittens 6 months and under, and $80.00 for kittens/cats over 6 months old. The adoption fee includes neuter/spay surgery, microchip, current vaccines, a free vet visit voucher to a participating vet 7 days after adoption, as well as a 10-day "get acquainted" period. Animals that have been at our facility for an extended period will have their adoption fee reduced. Some of our adoptable animals will have their adoption fee waived, and they can be adopted for a donation in the amount an adopter chooses! For more information, please call 815-459-6222.

Please note: We do not hold animals for applicants. Adoptions must be done in person, and animals are not deemed adopted until all paperwork has been processed, fees paid, and the animal is released.
