The management of stray, sick and dangerous animals in Bell County is both necessary and important to the general health and safety of the citizens of Bell County. The Bell County Animal Shelter exists to promote this general welfare and to manage unwanted and unhealthy animals.
Our first goal is to remove problematic animals and then to find suitable homes for as many animals as possible. Realistically, not all animals can be or are suitable for adoption. Therefore, the Bell County Animal Shelter is a limited kill facility. Those animals which are unable to be adopted will be euthanized in a respectful and humane manner.
The Bell County Animal Shelter is a joint effort between the City of Belton and the County of Bell.
Due to the large number of stray and owner surrender intake, the population of dogs and cats is constantly changing. If you are interested in a specific animal or are missing an animal we ask that you visit our facility as soon as possible to ensure that the animal is here.
New animal shelter just opened January 31, 2012. The facility is a state of the art 10,000 sq. ft. building. We have 48 dog runs and 63 cat cages. There are roll up bay doors so all the animals get fresh air every day. The shelter dog runs also have drop doors incase of a natural disaster we have room for extra animals. We have an outside play area and an inside play area. Come check it out! We are always in need of volunteers also, just come fill out a volunteer application and come in when you can.
