Stray Hearts Animal Rescue
Stray Hearts Animal Rescue was started in January of 2015. Since January we have rescued over 70 dogs, this does not include the many cats and kittens that have been rescued. There is a team of 11 volunteers that help care for these animals, take them to the vet, clean their kennels, and play with them.
If you would like to adopt an animal we will do a home visit. If you pass the home visit we will take the animal to be vetted and there is an adoption fee of $65.00. You will also sign a contract stating that if break the contract we can come pick the animal up at anytime. We will also start doing follow up visits after the adoption. We do not want these animals being put back into situations that they once came from, we want them to have a loving family that is able to care for them, get the vetted when needed, and has time for them.

Margaux was a shelter pet at Stray Hearts for almost a year. She had a problem with constant skin ulcers. Stray Hearts invested time and money attempting to discover the reason for her skin disorder. After skin cultures, a biopsy, ointment, steroids, the shelter just couldn’t get the issue cleared up. Margaux lived at the office at Stray Hearts so staff was able to observe her during office hours. We had to distract her so she would stop licking and scratching her sores. Stray Hearts staff decided to create a full wardrobe of dresses and sweaters, from formal wear to preppy, that we’d put on her to keep her from licking and scratching. Here’s an adorable photo of her in her prom dress. The shelter promoted Margaux endlessly and finally she was adopted.
At her new home, Margaux's skin issue finally healed. Her new owner, Melody Costa, reports to Stray Hearts that Margaux is amazingly awesome. That she is such an outgoing and loving cat. She gets along well with the dogs that I sometimes have at home. Melody shares, "Margaux will sometimes sleep with me and she loves to cuddle on my chest. I get love bites on my nose and chin and she likes to groom me. I love how vocal she is too. Lots of meowing! Here is a photo of Margaux from last week. You can see her skin condition in the last picture. It doesn’t seem to bother her and it is completely healed. Thank you to everyone at Stray Hearts for being a safe place for Margaux to live until we found each other."

Rachel has a forever home!
This big, strong, black Pitbill has been in and out of Stray Hearts since 2017. She’s reactive towards other dogs, making it hard to find just the right situation for her. Through it all, our staff and volunteers stuck by her. We even built a remote outdoor kennel for her to reduce her stress level while in the shelter.
Finally, a gentle soul who needed a support dog to help him get through a tough time in his life, started fostering Rachel. Today he made it official and adopted her. Seeing the two of them so bonded and crazy about each other made all of the work and worry worthwhile.
We wish you a great life together! THIS is why we do what we do every day.

Scooter and Stich, Thanksgiving Success Story #2. Thanks to the Chamberlain's for sharing!
We are so pleased to have Scooter and Stich as a part of our family. They have successfully settled in, and we love being a part of their lives and observing their further development. While they are still shy of human interaction we observe that they earnestly enjoy their new life in the country. They have a little brother Zeus who is their soulmate and companion. Since Scooter and Stich have joined the family, Zeus refuses to admit he is not a big dog, and has taken on some “big dog” characteristics. Scooter and Stich are always chasing him and they play very well together, for this new friendship we are super thankful. They all love their treats, especially hot dogs. They become less shy and fearful and now we can even pet them on occasion. Recently, they learned to use a newly installed doggy door. We installed it to give them the option of getting into a warmer location, even though they love to sleep out in the snow, I can't imagine. This also gives them the option of coming inside on their own terms, which they do, and are always very interested to see what’s going on with their humans.
They don’t like getting their shots and it will take four of us to secure them when that time comes. They are excellent watch dogs and we are grateful for their help. We still have sessions with a trainer to encourage and educate their development, and the trainer even babysits for us sometimes. We adore having them as part of the family and they are a joy, we especially love to watch them interacting with their little brother. They follow daddy everywhere all the time! From the day we brought them home they have made tremendous strides. We are so happy we could give them this beautiful life and that we can share in theirs.
