Kentucky Habitat for Humanity
Kentucky Habitat for Humanity (KyHFH) is part of a global, nonprofit organization that provides simple, decent, affordable housing for low-income families.
Kentucky Habitat for Humanity (KyHFH) is a Habitat State Support Organization, which brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
Incorporated in November 1993, Kentucky Habitat for Humanity (KyHFH) was founded by a group of individuals whose sole purpose was to make a significant difference in the lives of Kentucky’s low-income adults and children, by working in partnership to build decent and affordable homes. To date, the 51 affiliates, serving 59 counties in Kentucky, which we directly support, have built approximately 2,500 homes; served more than 10,000 Kentuckians; provided over 4 million volunteer hours, and constructed the first Habitat Passive House. Through its grants, low-interest (0-2%) loans, and other financial support, KyHFH has provided an economic impact of nearly $100 million in affordable housing for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Direct financial support has contributed to the creation of new affiliates; capital purchases, such as equipment and building materials; ReStores (i.e., the retail arm of HFH, which offers employment to low-income individuals), etc. KyHFH also provides technical assistance and educational learning for our network of Habitat affiliates on topics including: energy-efficient construction and rehabilitation, resource development, advocacy, capacity building, disaster preparedness and response, and organizational infrastructure. Since March 2, 2012, KyHFH has raised over $2.3MM for the construction, rehab, and repair of houses, including a large percentage of mobile homes, as part of the disaster relief effort in the Appalachian region of Morgan and Menifee Counties alone.
