Monroe County Animal Control endeavors to protect people from the perils that result from the interaction with domestic animals. Furthermore we seek to protect animals from neglect and abuse inflicted upon them in violation of current laws. We continue our efforts through education and enforcement working toward a community where the quality of life for man or animal in not negatively affected by the other.

Our Adoption Process...
Adopting a dog or cat from the shelter: We adopt on a first come, first serve basis. You must come into the shelter and fill out an adoption application and put down a $10 non-refundable application fee to secure your spot for adoption. Currently the cost for adopting a shelter animal is $35. $10 is a non-refundable application fee, $25 is a deposit for the spay/neuter portion of the contract. Adopters sign a contract agreeing to have the dog/cat spayed or neutered within 30 days. When the spay/neuter procedure is done, a refund of the $25.00 will be issued by the county.
If you rent and want to adopt, before we start the adoption process, you must come in with a letter from your Landlord, with a copy of their picture ID, stating you may have an animal in your house. If you own or rent a mobile home or live in an Apartment complex, we must have a letter on letterhead from the manager stating you can have an animal in your home.
