River's Project.
We at ARF of MS are starting a program in honor of one of our former resident's River. River was a shy dog who was over looked due to his timidity. When his family found and adopted him, he was able to enjoy the very best of life. We want that for more of our wonderful residents who are overlooked due to their receding personalities, age, color or size.
Today, we want you to meet Louie Louie.
Louie was rescued by a family who got him after he was hit by a car. His injury caused him to have to have his tail amputated, which just adds to his cuteness. Louie is a big boy. A VERY big boy, weighing in over 100 pounds, which also adds to his cuteness. Louie loves a bed, in fact, he loves his bed so much, he would rather have his food brought to him in his bed, fat boys like to eat.
Louie has been overlooked because he is older, he is big, very big, he is black (black dog syndrome is a thing) and he has a block head, which causes some people to pause.
Louie would make a great family addition for anyone who is willing to let him be a couch potato and can handle fellas on the bigger side of life.
The approved adopter for Louie will have the adoption fee waived, and we will provide a gift certificate to Fondren Pet Shop for his shopping for his new home
We hosted our first event in a long time at The Library Lounge. Big thanks to our host, North State Animal Hospital and those who came out to support us. @librarylounge_ms
February 13th- Will you be my Valentine?
Happy Saturday/Valentines EVE EVERYBODY!
I’m Millie. I was found as a stray with a bum leg and these people here got me all fixed up! I am ready to find a forever home of my own. Tell me a pickup line you could never say to a human. I am a smart blue bully who prefers a nonsmoker. I am honest and a good-looking romantic. Favorite hobbies include long walks on the beach, kisses, holding hands, and skinny dipping. To find more information about adopting me please go to the shelter’s website and fill out the pop quiz. https://www.arfms.org/adopt
6.13.21 ADOPTED!!!
February 12th- Will you be my Valentine?
HI! I’m Cracker, an older female shepherd mix that was caught as a stray with (you probably guessed it) a cracker! Guess that’s why we had a friend here named slim jim once! That makes perfect sense now! I am a sweet girl, but I can be a bit salty to other female dogs. I love to play games like the floor is lava and hopscotch. If you are looking for a very mild mannered, mature but not stale friend, I am your girl. We can sit in front of the TV watching game shows, eating saltines, and drinking sweet tea all day long! I am great on the leash and would make an excellent partner for binging on Netflix all weekend or trying a new recipe in the kitchen! To learn more about making me part of your family please visit our website https://www.arfms.org/adopt #dogsofinstagram #adoptdontshop #seniordogsofinstagram
February 11th- Will you be my Valentine?
Jay is a 4-year-old small terrier mix. He is single and ready to mingle! His girlfriend/roommate of a few weeks got adopted YESTERDAY! Hip Hip Hooray for Delta! Jay doesn’t have to be a single dog, but he is a bit of a lone ranger that likes to take center stage and show off. He can be picky about who he invites to his VIP party (dogs). Jay prefers the volume up as loud as it can go, so no apartment life for him! Jay is a very sweet boy with all the humans he meets! We suspect he would be fine with older children even though he is picky with other dogs. Jay has been researching how to maintain his party lifestyle after losing his hype girl to a home and brought us these ideas….
Healthy D-Jay Lifestyle habits:
1. Sleep in a dark room
2. Wear musician earplugs
3. Spend some time meditating
We will help Jay with a quiet place to relax but if you want to meet your new best friend/ DJ/ life of the party visit our website for an adoption application. https://www.arfms.org/adopt
February 10th- will you be my Valentine?
Meet Sully. I’m new here! A few attorneys found me downtown with hot grease burns down my back and brought me to the shelter for help. I came into the shelter a little cranky towards other dogs but that maybe just because I was living on the street and trying to keep people away for a bit. I’ve since mellowed out and showing my happy happy dance side. Now I want nothing more than someone to snuggle. I am a big boy who thinks I’m a tiny teacup when it comes to cuddling. I love to walk on the leash and would make an excellent running partner. Do you have room in your heart and home for a GIANT BABY like me?
If interested in adopting Sully please visit our website for an application. https://www.arfms.org/adopt #adoptdontshop #rescuedogsofinstagram
February 9th- Will you be my Valentine?
Did your parents ever play that came when you were growing up where they said, “I’ve got your nose!” and then laughed as they held their thumb in their fingers? Cyrano had the same, but it was probably another dog that got his nose and did not give it back! Did that traumatize you when your parents played that game? Do you need a good counselor to recover?
Meet Cyrano! He is a wonderful listener and does not judge any book by its cover nor its past! He would be a great friend to keep all your secrets safe! Cyrano has been in our shelter a little under a year and is approximately 2 years old. He is super fun, playful, and most of all a BIG LOVE BUG!!! Cyrano isn’t protective of what is remaining of his nose unless it’s interacting with another dog and it gets face to face. He is a HUNK and a favorite of all the volunteers that come to play with him! If you have space in your home with no other pets and looking for your new best friend, Cyrano says he is ready to face the world with you! Visit our website for an adoption application. https://www.arfms.org/adopt #dogsofinstagram #adoptdontshop #rescuedog
February 8th. Will you be my Valentine?
Meet Dahli! Dahli is an adult American bulldog mix who was found in the middle of a highway shortly after weening some puppies. A nice lady stopped and Dahli jumped right in her car. After searching for owners in the middle of nowhere (who never came forward) Dahli joined the shelter from boarding. Dahli is a very laid back and sweet girl. She’s a little bit of sugar and a little bit of spice like her two different colored eyes. Blue and the white side is her sweet side. She is always sweet as can be when it comes to people. The other side is her side eye side. That’s the one she shows other dogs. Lol Totally kidding but like many of our other pets this month Dahli does prefer to the only pet. She appreciates the little things in life and will laugh at your jokes even if they aren’t funny! Look at her SMILE! We think she would do great with older children and a family that does not have other pets. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Dahli please visit our website https://www.arfms.org/adopt
February 7th- Will you be my Valentine?
Hello! My name is Victory and I was brought in as a puppy in 2017 adopted and returned and now I am a young lady. I am a shepherd mix which means I am so smart! I’m in great health and have the cutest little baby face! Victory means to defeat an enemy or an opponent, and I will be very protective of you. If you’re looking for a loyal and intelligent young lady then adopt me! To fill out an application to foster or adopt Victory, please visit our website. https://www.arfms.org/adopt
Victory would like a quiet home without many visitors. Due to her protective nature, Victory requires a home with no other animals nor children. Please share her story so she can find her forever!
February 6th- Will you be my Valentine?
Allison is a 4-5 year old Staffordshire Terrier mix who was surrendered to our shelter by her owner. They used her for breeding to make a profit. She is in the top 10 of the most affectionate pups at the entire shelter. Allison is very calm and super sweet. She wants nothing more than humans to pet her, feed her, and tell her she’s pretty. She is great at reminding you when her bowl is empty as she carries it around like a security blankie in her mouth. Allison’s calm demeanor would make her great emotional support companion for the right family. The only thing she doesn’t like is other dogs. Shes doesn’t want to play games when it comes to other pups. She prefers cuddling humans instead. We suspect this is from being bred for profit at such a young age that play time or jumpy pups become an anxiety trigger for her and she simply tells the other pups to back off. Please share her story so we can find Allison her own home where she can be the center of attention. She is P-R-E-C-I-O-U-S! If you are interested in adopting Allison please fill out an application at https://www.arfms.org/adopt .
Hi I’m Blade!
I’m a 3 (almost 4) year old Lab/Thai Ridgeback mix. Can you believe these humans downloaded an app to tell them that? I refer to myself as CBD aka Cute Black Dog! Being a youngin, I LOVE to be active! Are you and your family active? Because that sounds like the perfect situation for me! I’m playful when I get to know you but can seem shy at first. In fact, do you have kids over 10? Because that would be awesome! We can play all day! I’ll help them exercise and that means we all will sleep better! I’m all boy by the way so I absolutely love sports…especially tennis! Can you get a tennis ball? I would do just about anything for one! I will take it from you or your children as graceful as holding a baby butterfly to release it on its journey to Mexico, but I will play with it after that. GIMME BALL! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I am very gentle when playing with the ball but I run real fast! I should learn commands quickly as much as that yellow circle seems to make me so happy and focused! The other dogs around here don’t like me. They may wonder why my snout is so small and I’m so tall. IDK what it is, but I really would like a home that let’s me be a CBD with a tennis ball! The trainer says it’s not my fault that I get picked on. It’s hard being tall and good looking! Balls are for fetching. Let’s find and save all the tennis balls together! If you are interested in adopting or fostering Blade please fill out an application at https://www.arfms.org/adopt
