Argonn (Animal Rescue Group of Northern Nevada)

Active in two rural counties (Lyon and Pershing) in Nevada where there are no county facilities available for rescuing or protecting cats, either domestic or feral. The Lyon County animal shelter only accomodates dogs, and is not a no-kill shelter.

ARGONN is a 501 (c) 3 organization, incorporated in 2010. Our primary goal is to advocate and protect safe environments for feral cats, as well as for abandoned or unwanted cats and dogs. For those that actively manage feral cat colonies, we will assist with food supplies if they agree to our TNR (trap, neuter, release) program. We will also provide traps and help with transport to and from veterinary clinics in the area. It is our philosophy that feral colonies are viable if reproduction is minimized, thus reducing the nuisance factor to surrounding neighborhoods. Controlled colonies are also healthier colonies when their numbers are not allowed to multiply unchecked.

For community folk that harbor and provide shelter for abandoned or unwanted cats and dogs, we will assist with food and other necessities if spaying/neutering is practiced and the animal(s) is kept in a humane and clean environment.

We seek foster families for temporary care of animals that we are actively trying to find permanent homes for.

With continued education, exposure and activity at both government and community level, we hope to bring increasing public awareness to the plight of so many domestic animals that suffer atrocious abuse, or end up abandoned because their families either no longer want them or cannot afford the cost of feeding and caring for them.

We strongly advocate spay/neuter of all family pets and the adoption of pets from reputable animal shelters. Any breeding should be planned and for the right reasons, or better still left to those registered facilities that follow legal and careful guidelines. The proliferation of kittens and puppies should not simply be allowed to happen because of negligence or lack of funds to pay veterinary bills.
Help is available for those that take the time to look for it, and it is the reason for our existence.
