Shadow was abandoned at an apartment building where I was living in 2006 and
I offered to take her in while her owner was located. Obviously her owner was never
found , but I quickly grew fond of this lovely little green-eyed, solid black Bombay kitty. Her favorite place to sleep was on my pillow next to my head with her paw resting on my hair. Not even her ongoing medical problems could slow her down and she became my companion at my place of employment: she was the office greeter and loved to sit in the window and watch people passing by.

Shadow recently became very ill and I made the painful decision to let her go.
The memory I have of her taking all the difficulties of a cat’s life, especially being abandoned, in stride and remaining a sweet and devoted kitty makes me
want to give that opportunity to other cats. Black cats and feral cats are the ones given the least consideration, and they are the ones who truly need it most.
