Diverse Humanity: LGBTQ-themed Photography Books

Unprecedented series of LGBTQ-themed photography books from The New Press.

Diverse Humanity is a website dedicated to a groundbreaking series of LGBTQ-themed photography books that revisit and reinvent the concept behind “The Family of Man,” the landmark photography exhibition held at the MoMA New York in 1955. Taking into account the sweeping societal changes of the past sixty years, and arguing for a more diverse and inclusive sense of who we are in the twenty-first century, the books foregrounds a range of often hidden communities who live with varying degrees of acceptance and have challenged commonly held definitions of family. Exploring human relations in all their rich complexity, this photobook series—the first of its kind—focuses on the commonalities in order to dismantle the very idea that the “other” is fundamentally different from us.
