MMC Division of Humanities and Social Sciences

Promoting cultural literacy, social inquiry, critical thinking, and political awareness among our students at Marymount Manhattan College.

Our mission is to encourage the personal and intellectual growth of our students, to promote their cultural and political awareness, and to provide them with highly transferable skills that are necessary for success in their lives and careers: effective oral and written expression; analysis and critical evaluation of complex data, texts, and information; insight into alternative perspectives and worldviews; and creative, outside-the-box problem-solving.

The Division of Humanities and Social Sciences comprises the departments of English and World Literatures, History, International Studies, Philosophy and Religious Studies, Political Science, and Sociology, as well as the college-wide Academic Writing program. It supports five major programs (English and World Literatures, Interdisciplinary Studies, International Studies, Politics and Human Rights, and Philosophy and Religious Studies) and twelve minor programs (Asian Studies, Creative Writing, English and World Literatures, Gender and Sexuality Studies, History, International Studies, Justice Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Religious Studies, Social Work, and Sociology).
