Our mission is to rescue abandoned, injured and lost animals and offer them a safe haven to be loved and nurtured until we can find them furever homes. We believe with volunteer and community support we can make this happen!

Montgomery County Humane Society is a non-profit 501-C3 organization, no-kill animal shelter. The new facility opened its doors May 2015 and has been rescuing and adopting out pets ever since. The county owns the building and the shelter runs off of donations raised through fundraising and community support. Faithful volunteers work at the shelter seven days a week to keep it up and running.

HOW IT WORKS:
Animals in need of rescue are taken in by Montgomery County Animal Control. Those animals are held at the Animal Control facility for 72 hours to be cleared of any health issues as well as allowing time for a potential owner to claim their pet. Once the 72 hours are up the dog or cat is transfered to MCHS. The animal is given a bath and appropriate flea and tick medicine and placed in one of the kennels. Each dog kennel is equipped with a large Igloo dog house, blankets and towels, dog or cat toys, and fresh water and food. The animal will remain at the shelter until it is adopted by an individual or rescue group. If you have an animal that is in need of rescue, call Montgomery County Animal Control first, 910-572-3067, and speak with an associate to handle the situation.

VOLUNTEERS:
Volunteers are the most important part of our organization. Without their hard work each day of the week, MCHS would not exist. Here is a list of duties that volunteers do on a regularly each day: let each dog out of its kennel to clean lots, clean and disinfect dog lots with sanitizer, remove blankets and towels for cleaning and replace with fresh blanket or towel daily, remove water dish and replace with fresh water dish, remove food bowl and replace with clean food bowl and fresh food, remove dog toys and replace with clean dog toys, clean out dog igloos, wash all blankets and towels, scoop out waste from dog lots and litter boxes, fold towels and clean toys, organize and take inventory of storage room, administer appropriate medicines, wash animals when needed, clean up grounds of shelter, organize paperwork for adoption process, update social media sites with photos of animals, help fundraise, help with vet visits, help with spay/neuter clinic visits, and much more. Volunteers are needed at all times for any/all of these tasks. If you are interested in volunteering, call the shelter at 910-571-0009 and speak with Sally Morris.

ADOPTIONS:
The adoption process requires a few steps. Once you have chosen the animal you would like to adopt, you must be approved by MCHS board. Upon approval you will fill out information that includes your name, address and phone number. You will have to present your personal identification card for photo copy and payment of $125. The charge of $125 for the animal will include a visit to the spay/neuter clinic to be fixed and a rabies shot. More information about this will be provided when you choose to adopt. Montgomery County Humane Society has the right to refuse adoption if the board sees necessary.
