Nimbus sat with her back strangely hunched. She walked with a bouncing gait. Something was wrong, but if she felt pain she hid it well.

We took radiographs and were startled to find that Nimbus has a fractured spine. This fragile kitten had a brush with danger but lived to tell the tale...now it’s up to us to help her recover.

We don’t know if this puppy was abused, attacked, or hit by a car...we just know he came to us with a broken leg and open sores. And he desperately needed help.

Our shelter medical team is working hard to save Buffalo Plaid’s leg. He’s now wearing a splint and getting laser therapy to help heal his wounds. One of our loving foster families is giving this sweet guy plenty of TLC during his recovery.

Magma was adopted last weekend, after many weeks of loving care in one of our foster homes ❤️

This 2 month old kitten was found as a stray back in October. She was limping. We examined her and found a fractured right femur and multiple pelvic fractures.

Thankfully, these injuries were the type that could heal well on their own without surgery. Magma gained strength day by day while living in one of our foster homes, and finally went up for adoption last week!

This kitten has been through a lot, and we are so happy that she found an adopter who will make her feel loved and at home. Shoutout to our fantastic foster families who help make recoveries like Magma's possible!!

Today we're thankful for Ann Edwards: our tireless and dedicated Foster Manager who will soon be leaving us for a well-deserved retirement. What better way to honor and embarass her than with a Thanksgiving post?

Ann has been part of the heart and soul of HSHV for almost 15 years. We will miss her dry humor and calming presence, as one of our long-time fosters sums up perfectly:

"Ann has been the cornerstone of the foster program at HSHV. She has trained new fosters, then held our metaphorical hands as we learned the ropes. So many times, I have contacted Ann in a frenzy with what I am sure is a unique situation, only to be met with a calm, confident reaction as if she’s seen it all before…and she has (oh, the stories she could tell!). Ann has become a household name for us and has led our family (and I am sure countless others) from newbies to veterans, all in the name of improving animal welfare. We will certainly miss Ann’s expertise and compassion, and simply knowing she’s there. We are, however, excited for her as she embarks on her new adventures!"

We will miss you, our foster families will miss you. Our admin cats will CERTAINLY miss you! And we are so happy for you to enjoy more time with your family and your own furbabies.
