Today is #GivingTuesday. While we are so grateful to the community of supporters who have helped us save dogs for so long, we are always just one small step ahead of the next disaster and the costs have gone up while adoptions have dropped since last year. We took in more dogs from large scale hoarding situations than ever before this year and the cost of those cases was extraordinary. We know the lives of the dogs we saved are worth it, but the costs of their rescue have put us far behind where we need to be. Add to it that the engine in one of our transport vans picked this week to die, and we are definitely strapped. The simple truth is we need help to do what we do.⠀
⠀
We also know that a lot of you are struggling, too, so if you’re not in a position to donate, you can always help by sharing our campaign with others you think might want to help. This year, we are being tested like never before. We want to continue to do the work we do. With your help, we can continue the magic that is Big Fluffy Dog Rescue. ⠀
⠀
We'd like to raise $35,000 to pay for the new engine ($8,000) and the rest to help manage the big cases we take in. If you'd like to donate $5 to help us help them, you can donate here: https://buff.ly/2ZDwcCh⠀
⠀
Thank you as always.
So, Lucy and Desi took a field trip today to Middle Tennessee State University so stressed out college students could pet them. It was by all accounts a raging success. Many students petted them as was their due. ⠀
⠀
For anyone so inclined, these two are adoptable. They are 3 year old Great Pyrenees and they are good with everyone and everything - kids, cats and other dogs. They are well-mannered in the house and I dare say, less trouble than the average college student. ⠀
⠀
Interested adopters should email jen.lu@bigfluffydogs.com. They're in Nashville but can travel where we do.
I need some magic from you all, so please read and spread the word. ⠀
⠀
This is Veronica Grace, the Great Pyrenees that we took in with the enormous mammary tumor that was dragging the ground. As it turned out, she was also carrying two dead puppies in utero. The surgery to remove her uterus and the huge tumor left her with a 15cm incision which is healing. She has several other small tumors we won't be removing.⠀
⠀
The pathology report on this dog was pretty terrible and we sent her to the oncologist for a work up. She has metastatic mammary cancer that is a grade 3 fairly aggressive adenocarcinoma. Several lymph nodes are involved and there is a 3cm mass in the abdomen that could be a lymph node, but may also be an invasive tumor. ⠀
⠀
This is not a treatable cancer. Chemotherapy would potentially extend her a life a month or two, but we do not believe that this in her best interest. What she needs is a hospice home with palliative care to keep her comfortable. She is sweet and low maintenance and she is currently very interested in her world. The vet cannot nail down an exact timeline, but she likely has 1 to 3 months to live. I don't want that time to be in the kennel.⠀
⠀
Veronica is great with people, but not great with dogs. She needs a hospice foster home with someone who can separate her from other dogs or with no other dogs. She is mellow, sweet and well-mannered. ⠀
⠀
She is in Nashville. It takes a special person to be able to do this, but hospice fostering is one of the most rewarding things you can do. This dog deserves a place to call home for whatever time she may have. If you can foster this dog for the last months of her life, please email nicole@bigfluffydogs.com. ⠀
⠀
Spread the word, please.
We made it to the weekend, kids. Let's talk about dogs. ⠀
⠀
Missile is a 2 year old, 60 pound German shepherd mix. Missile had a less than stellar start to life and he came to us very reserved. He has come a very long way and is a happy guy these days.⠀
⠀
Missile is a sweet, somewhat shy dog. He is good with other dogs and in fact takes his cues from them when he isn't quite sure what to do. He is playful and active with other dogs and he enjoys toys and playtime in general. He is intelligent and eager to please and learns quickly. ⠀
⠀
He has finally mastered the leash and he has learned basic manners. I would suggest that he go to a home with people who are fairly laid back and who are patient while this dog gets to know them. He is a very nice boy but he is not an in your face out of the gate kind of guy. A home with another dog is a must for him. He is not trustworthy with cats and he must have a fenced yard. ⠀
⠀
People who know shepherds will love this dog. He has all the good qualities of the shepherd without the 1000 yard stare intensity of a purebred. ⠀
⠀
Would be adopters should email jay@bigfluffydogs.com. He is in Nashville and can travel anywhere we do.
Happy Veteran's Day, kids. This little dog is Honey, a nine year old, knee-high beagle lab mix weighing in at a stout (and according to the vet, pudgy) 45 pounds. Honey can be pudgy as far as I am concerned because her start to life kind of sucked.⠀
⠀
Honey was plucked from a nasty hoarding case along with 8 of her tiny puppies from underneath the roof of a collapsed shed filled with trash. Her puppies have long since gone home, but she required a ton of medical care and is now healthy and happy and ready to go home.⠀
⠀
Honey is a quiet dog and is not going to be the life of any party. She will, however, eat all of the party snacks. She is good with everything and everyone and has zero known enemies. She'd probably make friends with a squirrel. She is housebroken, lazy and mellow. Seriously, if you ask for more, you're greedy.⠀
⠀
This amazing dog is in Nashville but can go anywhere we do. Interested adopters should email corey@bigfluffydogs.com. Spread the word for her, please.
This is Rizzo, a 3 year old German shepherd mix. Rizzo is a fabulous dog and she is also drop dead gorgeous. We should all be so fortunate to have her cheekbones.⠀
⠀
Rizzo is looking for her home. She is a German shepherd mix which means she is already organized, intelligent and planning for the future. Anyone interested in her should appreciate smart dogs who are very capable of being one step ahead of you. She is very sweet and devoted to her people and she is fond of people in general. The more who adore her, the better.⠀
⠀
Rizzo is well-mannered in the home. She is active without being a spider monkey on red bull/crack level of active, and she is quick to mellow out. She appreciates dogs who do not jump on her, but just want to hang. She is also fine on her own. She is prejudiced against cats and must go to a no cat home. ⠀
⠀
German shepherd people who love the breed but can't currently manage the intensity of a fullblooded GSD will appreciate this dog. Interested would be adopters should email jay@bigfluffydogs.com. She's in Nashville and can travel anywhere we do. Spread the word for her, please.⠀

Happy weekend, kids. So, I have a present for you. This is Carnie, an 8 year old, 85 pound Saint Bernard mix. I cannot honestly say what she is mixed with, but her owner said Saint mix, and I can kind of see it, so we'll roll with it. ⠀
⠀
Carnie came in with her two sisters and they had not been cared for with great diligence as they had been largely left in a field. When they sold the farm, the dogs came to us. She came in to rescue heartworm positive which required treatment which has been done and she is ready to go home. ⠀
⠀
Carnie has taken to indoor life well. She enjoys life at 72 degrees and she is completely happy to experience all its hedonistic pleasures like fluffy dog beds and fleece throws. Carnie needs a home with laid back people who want a laid back dog. If she was any more laid back, we'd have to check for a pulse. She is generally fine with dogs but prefers they not be in her face because she is way too chill to have some puppy harsh her mellow. She is fine with dog savvy cats who know that the bed is hers. She would be fine with kids over 8. In short, she's a really nice dog.⠀
⠀
I would like to see her go to a home with a fenced yard where she can amble when she feels like it, maybe a deck she can hang out on to put her nose in the wind on nice sunny days and someone to adore her. If she has a dog friend to share the deck with, fine, but she would also be OK on her own. She definitely needs petting and a dog bed with an ample supply of snacks. ⠀
⠀
This dog is currently in Nashville but can travel anywhere we do. Interested would be adopters should email jay@bigfluffydogs.com. ⠀

Happy Monday, kids. Back to the salt mines and I don't know about you, but I am pretty sure I am going to be in a diabetic coma shortly from all the Halloween candy I ate.⠀
⠀
Say hello to Berkeley. Berkeley is a 4 year old German shepherd mix who came to us out of one of the worst hoarding cases we've ever had. He arrived with 30+ of his compatriots months ago in terrible condition and absolutely petrified. Seven months later, and this boy is a different dog.⠀
⠀
Berkeley had to be completely shaved down on arrival because he was matted to the skin. He looks fluffy now but you haven't see anything yet. This is a megafluffy dog. I am not sure what is in his ancestry, but we took several Great Pyrenees, a Norwegian elkhound mix and a lot of herding breed mixes from this case, so anything is possible. He is not a big dog and weighs in at just under 60 pounds.⠀
⠀
Berkeley is a sweet dog who takes time to warm up to people. He needs a patient owner who will allow him to come to them for attention and not force attention on him. Given a couple of days, he will come directly to his people for petting and attention. He would be best in a calm home with kids well over the screaming years.⠀
⠀
He absolutely has to have a home with other dogs. He adores other dogs and loves to play. He takes his cues from his dog friends and he is just a wonderful, happy dog with other dogs. He is indifferent to cats. A fenced yard is an absolute requirement. This dog will make someone a fantastic member of the family.
Happy Halloween, kids. I was going to dress up my dog and post it, but he was massively uncooperative, so you're stuck with a regular post. ⠀

Alias is a 10 month old Australian cattle dog mix currently weighing in about 28 pounds or so. She is a typical herding dog who is intelligent, active and playful. She is great with other dogs and with people. She is not good with cats. ⠀
⠀
Alias is an outgoing girl and she needs a moderately active home. This means someone who does more than walk to the mailbox unless you have a fenced yard so she can wear herself out. She would do well in a home with another dog to play with and with people who are amused by herding dog antics. She is fine with people, but I would suggest she go with people over the age of 8 as she does enjoy herding things and that would include children. My parents thought it was hilarious when our border collie herded me around the yard as a child, but modern parents are less amused and so older kids only please. ⠀
⠀
Alias is well mannered in the home, crate trained and is very nice dog for most anyone who appreciates intelligent, active dogs with the emphasis on intelligent. If you want a dog who is surprised to see you come home from work because they didn't realize you were gone, this is not your dog. She'll tell you that you are seven minutes late. ⠀

Happy Sunday, kids. So I would like to talk to you about Peach. This is obviously not a big, fluffy dog, and she is, in fact, a knee high pudgeball with short hair. Peach came to us along with her son Paddington because we intervened in something that made us grind our teeth and swear in six languages. The short version is she and her son were removed from and then returned to a county dump. This did not strike us as OK so we stepped in and that is all I will say about that. ⠀
⠀
Peach is a 10 year old, 55 pound dog, and she had a number of challenges on arrival health wise. She is much better now and is a happy, social girl with a huge smile. Life has not been overly kind to her and it is pretty obvious she has had many many litters of puppies. Despite everything, this dog is the sweetest, kindest dog ever.⠀
⠀
Peach is great with people and has never met a stranger. She is generally good with other dogs but for reasons that follow, I would like her to be an only dog. She is not good with cats. She has excellent house manners, rides like a champ in the car and has world class napping skills on soft dog beds. This is a lounging, lazy lady of leisure who has taken to inside life like a boss. ⠀
⠀
That said, dogs who end up at dumps scavenging for survival develop coping skills that don't always make them successful multi-dog household members. Peach does very well with pretty much every dog she has met, but she has residual issues where she will scrap with another dog if she feels threatened. Normal dog behavior can scare her setting off her defense reactions, even when she's known the dog for some time. For that reason, I think it is best she be the single light of someone's life. ⠀
⠀
Peach is in Nashville and can go anywhere we do. Interested adopters or fosters should email melanie@bigfluffydogs.com. Spread the word please.

Peach is in Nashville and can go anywhere we do. Interested adopters or fosters should email melanie@bigfluffydogs.com. Spread the word please.
