We are a group of animal welfare activists who started Athens Area Humane Society nearly three decades ago. Our mission is to rescue, spay/neuter, and find homes for homeless pets in the surrounding counties.

The Athens Area Humane Society is a donor supported no-kill 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to lowering area euthanasia rates through adoption, spay/neuter, and pet retention programs.

This page is dedicated to the Animals that our non-profit organization rescues and adopts, as well as they Animals in our community as a whole. We are a no-kill shelter and work closely with Animal Control Shelters in our area to rescue animals and save lives. We are a private non-profit and therefore receive no government or national funding. We rely solely on private donations from individuals, businesses, and groups. We also have a Spay & Neuter Clinic where we offer low-cost surgeries to the public and rescue groups. This affordable service helps people save more lives by spaying and neutering their pets. We strive to be a voice for the animals in our community. Our posts will include photos of adoptable animals, adoption photos, events, fundraisers, and news regarding our organization.
