Just a snapshot of a recent playgroup happening at the City of Alpine Animal Shelter. Alpine Humane Society helps out at the shelter in many ways, including running these wonderful exercise-and-socialize daily events to keep dogs "normal" while they are here waiting for someone to find them and bring them home forever.

Most of the pooches in this group have adoption applications in or are going to be transported to other rescues in the north. Franke and Elmo are still waiting to be discovered and to be loved forever, along with a few others who are not shown here. All adoptable dogs AND CATS (no, we don't bring the cats out to the yard for playgroup) are shown on our Petfinder page.

4-year-old AXEL is a lovely fella who came into the Alpine shelter with pretty good leash skills, and has only improved on them while here. He's very pleased to get attention from people, and he is a friend to several other dogs though he seems to think that a few of them are jerks. As with any dog, if you will be adopting Axel into a home with other dogs we are happy to host a meet and greet either at the shelter or at the city dog park. If your pup or one near you could use some extra outdoor bedding, pick up a free bale of wood shavings at the Alpine Humane Society Thrift Store on North 5th street in Alpine. It could be yours, or someone's near you. Not everyone is on Facebook, so please, if there's an outside dog near you who doesn't have enough protection from the cold, tell your neighbor, or bring them a bale.

Also: you can call APD dispatch to request a welfare check on any animal within the city limits if needed.

One-year-old REX came into the shelter with his 2-year-old sister-from-another-mother MAENITA when their owner recently passed away. They are happy to hang out together but do not need to be adopted together. Each will be ready for a forever adoption on 12/8, but they can be met and played with and walked around the Alpine Animal Shelter on Old Marathon Highway now, by calling 432-837-9030 to make an appointment.

Sweet and fun little ELLIE is the youngest of the dogs and puppies currently available to adopt at the City of Alpine's Animal Shelter on Old Marathon Highway. Come and pay a visit to her, the seven tan 4-month-olds (larger breed than Ellie), 10-month-old Diablo, yearlings Ivie and Rex, or our currently oldest, 2-year-old Maenita. Peri (short for Peridot) is agile, playful, and talkative, and her sis Cindy is also talkative but seems to be able to take you or leave you, though she ADORES Peri. HOWEVER, the foster reports that progress is being made in befriending Cindy with FOOD... tiny wholesome snacks that are making her start to think that these people aren't so bad. One-year -old SLIM JIM was picked up in Alpine as a stray, and he's taking some time to warm up to the friendly helpers and employees at the Alpine Shelter. He'll need a calm and steady adopter to show him that life is great and people are good, but when that happens, he'll become a great sidekick!
