Rocky was surrendered to a local animal shelter when his owners were no longer able to care for him. Rocky is a 6 year old Male Bulldog Mix that weighs right around 50 lbs. He is such a sweet boy!!! Rocky still loves to run/play and go for walks. He does take a joint supplement for his hips since he is a senior guy. He gets along with dogs of all sizes that he has met! He is a very laid back guy!!! Rocky is housetrained and crate trained. Honestly, this guy is so easy going that he is going to make someone a wonderful companion.

WELCOME HOME WEDNESDAY! Here's an update from her adopter on Winnie, who left Texas Friday on our most recent transport:

"Winnie has moved to Vancouver, Washington and is now called Maud. She arrived on Sunday afternoon and was feeling a bit timid with all the changes. She quickly adjusted once she saw there was another dog and is taking her cues from her new brother, Huxley. She is super interested in her cat brothers, but this will take time.

Her wonderful foster, Vicki crate trained Maud before transport, and this really helped with how well the trip went and how easily she goes into the crate each night to go to sleep. She doesn’t make a sound in the crate and sleeps all night long. This morning when I woke up, I could hear her tail thumping in excitement that it was time to get up and start a new day.

Maud likes to sit and observe before she jumps into an activity. I know if she plops down that she is feeling unsure and needs a little time. We have been observing the dogs playing at the park, and she looks forward to when she can be off leash to join in on the fun. Right now we are working on her knowing her name and knowing I am her human.

Leash walking is an adventure with two dogs, and we will work on that together.

We are also working on potty training in a new home, and I’m figuring out what works for her.

I am so excited to have this sweet girl join my family. Thank you all for saving this girl. I am glad we found each other."

Welcome Home Wednesday! Squash Blossom

This tiny girl came from a hoarding situation, one of 18. She was underweight, had flea dermatitis and skin breakdown. What little hair she had was brittle and matted. She was comfortable with other dogs, but humans were another story altogether. She couldn't make eye contact and shook with fear at every touch. She learned, though still shy, that people can be trusted. That cuddles and tummy rubs are good. Still a work in progress, Squash Blossom had a meet and greet Monday. When potential mom, Lana, walked into the house she called Sqaush Blossom's name. She said, "Come see me!"
Squash Blossom hurdled the coffee table and flew straight into her arms!
Lana had been searching for an emotional support/companion dog. During the 2 hour visit, Squash Blossom never left her arms or her side. Foster mom didn't even get another glance. LOL
Squash Blossom went home that day. We truly believe this is a match made in heaven.

Exciting news for Second Chance Dog Rescue!!!

We may be a small rescue but we have big hearts and dreams to make a difference in the lives of homeless dogs in our area. We have learned a lot over the last five years and found homes for hundreds dogs through our partnership with Project Freedom Ride. We are grateful for our time with PFR over the last several years, but have made the decision to work independently with a transport company. Our decision is based on the need to focus solely on the homeless dogs and cats within our community, which continues to be a problem. This is a big undertaking for a small rescue group and we will continue to learn through our experience but we are so excited by this opportunity! Stay tuned for more information regarding our upcoming transport this week!!!
