Tails of Success!
Many of you have seen our post on Operation Siouxland, where we had animals from Hurricane Ida flown up to Sioux City so we can help find them their paw-fect fits - well, we are so happy to say almost every pet from that transport has found just that! Here are some very sweet photos we got of these new and wonderful families.
As you can tell, it wasn't just the pets getting their forever homes, but these families definitely got their new best friends! Thank you so much to everyone who helped these babies find their families just in time to be cozied up in their new homes for the holidays. These guys are probably going to have the best Thanksgiving they could ever ask for now that they have their favorite people to spend it with!

OPERATION SIOUXLAND:
A couple months a go you may remember us posting about Operation Sunflower, where we took in 8 dogs and 6 cats that had been flown in by Greater Good Charities from Hurricane Ida to help find their fur-ever homes in the Siouxland area! Well, yesterday we had the pleasure of having another 40 dogs and 12 cats flown into the Sioux City Airport in effort to give these happy-go-lucky pets homes while the shelters down south are re-couping from Hurricane Ida.
We took in 20 dogs and 6 cats from this wonderful transport and we're happy to say they've settled in nicely and are now available for adoption!
These guys come in all shapes, sizes, breeds, and have different temperaments, personalities, and traits to share with you guys, so you can definitely find the best fit for your home! All these fur-babies are ready to meet you and find their paw-fect fits!

HERE COMES BUDDY! This is Buddy. Buddy is over our Halloween festivities and says, "to heck with your pumpkins and candy!" Maybe he's just over this month because it was Adopt a Shelter Dog Month and he's still waiting for his fur-ever family? How this guy is still hanging around is beyond us!
Let us tell you some things about this ridiculously goofy boy:
He loves, loves, LOVES to play. With anything. Literally anything. A pinecone, a rock, a PUMPKIN. If Buddy can get it in his mouth, it's getting played with.
He is a people pupper, he enjoys all the time he can get with people and just wants to stay near you any chance he gets.
He loves to be outside SO MUCH, he would absolutely love a big yard he can run around and maybe an actual ball to chase for once.
He does do fantastic with other dogs, but would probably do best in a home with no kitties. It's part of that, "everything is toy - woohoo" type mentality.
He is very treat motivated and wouldn't mind learning a trick or two for some Beggin' Strips!

This handsome guy would really love a fur-ever home before Adopt A Shelter Dog Month ends, but he'll be waiting here until he finds his paw-fect place. If this boy seems like he's a match made in heaven for your family, come check him out! He would love for you to toss a REAL toy for him!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE SIOUXLAND HUMANE SOCIETY! Today is our Halloween event down at our facility. There are snacks, punch, pumpkin painting for the kiddos, and a costume contest for humans AND your pets! We're gonna have loads of fun today and we would love to have you join. TODAY IS THE DAY! Today is Siouxland Big Give! This event matches supporter passion with non-profits, like the Siouxland Humane Society! Siouxland Big Give runs midnight to midnight Tuesday, October 5, 2021, so you can donate now!
This year we are focused on a new program and services vehicle. A vehicle is the “driving” force behind many of the SHS programs and services. A new vehicle will impact our mission and programs and services in a huge way.
Many of which are dependent on the use of a vehicle. This includes:
Spay/Neuter & Veterinary Care Programs, The “Best Friends” Volunteer Program, Educational services and outreach programs,
Pet Facilitated Therapy, Offsite adoption programs,

Today is October 1st which marks the start of National Adopt a Dog Month! National Adopt a Dog Month was created to raise awareness for dogs who have been a bit down on their luck and have ended up in shelters, and are now looking for their fur-ever homes. These dogs come in for all different reasons, all just wanting to find their paw-fect fit. Lucky for us, we get to help these babies find just that - homes that love them endlessly and unconditionally. Right now is the best time to find your fur-friend! On top of being National Adopt a Dog Month, we also have a special running on dogs until 5pm tomorrow. (10/2/21) All dogs in shelter, unless marked otherwise, are half off their adoption fee! We have dogs of all sizes, shapes, breeds, and colors, you're sure you to find the best fit for your home. TODAY IS THE DAY EVERYBODY. Today is our Pets on Parade! We have vendors, food, and most importantly - ANIMALS! We're here until noon and we have kiddos to adopt and places to shop. We also have our silent auction and our run and walk is underway. TAILS OF SUCCESS! 🐾🎉 This is Hank. Hank was at our facility for 52 days, waiting for that paw-fect family who understood that he was just a gentle giant with a big ol' bark. He would sit at the front of his kennel, waiting for anyone who would look past his goofy exterior and give him the chance to be the great boy that he truly is - Then the wonderful Theisen family came along. They let us take Hank out of his kennel for them so we could show them that although this big boy's bark was mighty, his personality and temperament were so much more quiet and gentle than he would ever lead on. Our sweet Hank fell in love with them just as much as they fell in love with him. He laid at their feet, on their laps, anywhere where he could, so that he could be close to them. He chose this family and they chose him right back, and decided to take him home that very day. Hank was so excited that he was going home, he could hardly stop himself from running into the glass while we were trying to get pictures of this new and beautiful family. Now Hank has a comfortable home with plenty of space to live his best big-boy life, everything we wanted for him!
Thank you so much to the Theisen family for giving Hank a chance and giving him the home he deserves. We couldn't have asked for a better fit!

OPERATION SUNFLOWER 🌻🌻 Last week the Siouxland Humane Society received 9 dogs and 6 cats from Hurricane Ida. These kiddos were flown into Sioux Falls by Greater Good Charities, coming all the way from Louisiana. The SHS and a few other shelters from the region got the opportunity to welcome some of these sweet pets into our facilities. All of these animals were in a shelter previously and they moved them up here not only to find their fur-ever homes, but to also make room for pets that didn't have a place to go during the tragedy that was Hurricane Ida. When they got to the shelter, they were all ready to play, run, make friends, and roll around in allllllll of the grass! But we still gave them a couple of days to rest and get their bearings here up in Iowa - It can be a big change going from the exciting Mardi Gras lifestyle to the land of the cornfields, lets be real! But now, we're happy to say all of these beautiful babies are ready for adoption. If you're interested in adopting or just want to give these angels some time to play, stop down to the shelter and let these guys show you how the animals from down south like to get DOWN!

Hello Animal AND Halloween lovers! It's September 1st which means we're getting into the Halloween spirit around the shelter. Not only do we have some cute, spooky decorations up, we also decorated our Pet of the Week boards and we have some absolutely adorable retail. Our retail includes some really neat pet costumes, some to-die-for collars and leashes, and an assortment of toys your pets will go crazy for! Some say we might be getting into the Halloween spirit a little too early, but it's never too early for us around here. If you need some help getting excited for fall and all the spooks that come with it or maybe you want to visit with one of our very cool pets that are featured on our Pet of the Week boards - Come visit us! We'd love to help get your and your pets ready for one of the best times of the year - Halloween!

BALL IS LIFE! This beautiful girl is Benelli and as you can tell, she looooves a good game of fetch. This sweet pup was an owner surrender that was primarily an outside dog. In her previous home her only toys were rocks and she didn't understand the joy that balls bring to our canine friends! The second she was given her favorite purple ball, it was game over - this girl is now obsessed. We decided to see just how much she loves bouncy balls and this is the result! She hardly even know what to do and she just wants to grab every single one.
For some more background on Benelli, she's five years old and has an amazing temperament. She's very patient for the most part and would be a great dog for a farm or an acreage. She would need dog introductions because she's particular on which dogs she gets along with and would prefer no cats - she thinks they make better toys than pets. She is great on leash and knows how to sit like a pro. Treats are a great motivator and she'll be at your beck and call for some Beggin' Strips.
If she seems like she'd be a good fit for your home - come check her out! She's been hanging out here for around two months and deserves an amazing home.

DYNAMIC DUOS!! Is your house maybe a little too quiet? Are you looking for not one, but TWO new furry friends/snuggle buddies? Check out these sweet bonded pairs!
The sweet tabby boy's name is Dexter, and his bonded buddy is his fur-sister, Lilly! These kiddos are two peas in a pod who love to lay about and lounge around. They both love to have their chins scritch-scratched and snuggling is their forte! An occasional treat or two (or five) would make them the happiest house panthers you've ever met. These two would love a home where they can just be the lazy kitties they were meant to be.
We also have a spunky bonded pair who go by the names of Luna (orange girl) and Ursula (tortoiseshell girl) who are also looking for a home to be their silly selves in! These two are more on the wild side and love to play, play, PLAY! String toys and catnip is all you need to keep these goofy girls busy all day - and if you throw a couple of treats into the mix you have two HAPPY balls of energy.
If neither of those sets of bonded pairs sound like they'd be the best fit for your home, we also have one more pair that aren't pictured! These two are currently residing at our local PetSmart and they go by the names of Moose and Tigger. These two love laser lights, pom-pom balls, and NAPS! If you're looking for a more active pair who still love to snuggle, these two could be purr-fect for you.
