Humane Society of Southern Illinois

HSSI is a non-profit, open access Humane Society. We accept every animal that walks, crawl, slithers or creeps into our doors.

The Humane Society of Southern Illinois has been around for almost 50 years. We are mainly funded through donations and every little bit helps.

Our facility takes in approximately 5,000 animals yearly and we do the best we can to find homes for them.

In December, 2005 the Humane Society of Southern Illinois began an exciting new program to save pets from euthanasia.

We began working with an independent rescue coordinator to place adoptable animals in high quality "no kill" programs in the northern part of the state that would otherwise be euthanized.

As always, this would never have been possible without the kind and generous donations of our members and supporters. Please donate to help sustain this vital Life Saving program!

In addition to operating an adoption program for dogs, cats and other small domestic animals, we also work with other area rescue organizations. This allows us to place as many pets as we can into loving homes.
We also offer a great spay/neuter program (unlike any other in the area). On the first of each month, our Pennies for Pets Program allows us to sell vouchers that cover the spaying or neutering of a pet. For more information on this and other low cost spay/neuter program in our area please contact the shelter at 618-457-2362.
