The history of Animal Rescue
& Ambulance Brigade of SA club.

In 1978, a young man, of 27 years of age, had an accident, which resulted in a large dog, German Shepherd cross, being injured by his car. The man called for assistance but after an hour he decided he could not wait any longer. He took the dog to the nearest vet where it was treated for its injuries. Luckily the dog recovered. The dog was named Fred and went on to live a long and enjoyable life with the man.

This incident concerned the man greatly as he thought of the animals that did not recover after accidents, due to the length of time taken to respond to such calls. That thought remained in his head for a long time and eventually led to the creation of the Animal Rescue & Ambulance Brigade of SA. Club.

It first began with an EH Holden station wagon that would attend all call outs. Today, 34 years later, a Ford and Holden station wagon, covers all general transportation. For the emergency situations there is an Mitsubishi van as an Ambulance which has been modified to suit the treatment of animal.

That young man has come a long way but his task is not yet completed. His goal is to set up 6 Animal Ambulance bases spread through out the metropolitan area, which would mean the average response time to a call, would be fifteen minutes.
As we work towards this goal, we thank that man, Jeff Pix, for his humanity and we recognise him as the founder of The Animal Rescue & Ambulance Brigade of SA. Club.
