Friends of Montgomery County Animal Control is a volunteer program that works directly with Montgomery County Animal Control to aid in care for, awareness of, and adoption of animals at the county facility. We are a group of volunteers who work with the Montgomery County Animal Control Staff to find adoptive homes or rescue groups for dogs and cats at the county's shelter in Hillsboro, Illinois, to avoid euthanization of adoptable dogs and cats. This includes providing transportation to spay/neuter appointments or to rescue groups in other areas. We also volunteer at the county shelter to help walk and socialize the dogs and cats until they are claimed by their owner, adopted out or transferred to rescue groups. These efforts help maintain less than 4.5% euthanization rate at the animal control facility. In 2013, zero dogs and cats were euthanized for space; the only euthanizations were due to severe illness/injury or aggression.
