Just For Dogs
JFD is a charity dedicated to the care of and rehoming of abandoned, neglected or unwanted dogs. Our dogs are wormed, vaccinated, neutered & microchipped.
Our main objectives were as follows :-
To rescue dogs who through no fault of their own had found themselves lost and alone on the streets.
To worm, fully vaccinate, spay/neuter and get veterinary attention when needed for all dogs coming into the Centre.
Re-home in a responsible manner and without long lists of restricting guidelines. We insist on our dogs being offered a kind, loving and responsible home. We are quite prepared to re-home dogs to families with young children, senior citizens, and people in full time employment as long as these people understand that it has to be the right dog to fit in with the right environment.
To operate a very strict non-destruct policy where only terminally ill dogs that are suffering are put to sleep or dogs that in our opinion are exceptionally aggressive and so would pose a great risk to the public and other dogs alike.
Out of over 1200 dogs rescued by Just for Dogs, only two have ever had to be destroyed through aggression as on rare occasions we have had to put to sleep terminally ill dogs that are suffering. One had sadly killed two small dogs whilst roaming the streets as a stray, the other had attacked several people and after spending weeks in the kennels being assessed, would not allow carers any where near his kennel. It needs to be stressed that the decision to destroy these two dogs was not taken lightly.
In our first two years over £83,000.00 was needed to fund the running of the centre, our main expenses being veterinary and food costs. We rely totally on voluntary donations and fund raising. Within a month of setting up Just for Dogs we were contacted by our local veterinary practice, Scarsdale Veterinary Hospital and asked if we could take in the occasional dog for them, which had been sent to their practice to be destroyed via Derby City Council. We feel very committed to these dogs as their very last chance is Just for Dogs and we have saved over 200 this way.
As previously stated we have in just over four and a half years managed to rescue and re-home over 1200 dogs and can now boast over 700 members.
Over 25,000 stray dogs were destroyed in Great Britain in 1998, therefore our aims are to expand our kennel capacity in order that Just for Dogs can offer a future to even more of these sad and unfortunate animals.
Rescue and Rehoming Dog Rescue Charity dedicated to giving shelter, medical attention when necessary, to vaccinate & neuter, all the dogs that come into our care before finding them forever, loving and responsible homes.
