Oakville & Milton Humane Society
Help us speak for those who can't speak for themselves!
Registered charity# 119064350RR0001
The Oakville & Milton Humane Society is an independent, non-profit organization, dedicated to the welfare of all animals. We are funded by donations from the public. The shelter, serving the communities of Oakville and Milton, was established in 1936.
We assist animals - domestic, wild, and exotic - which have been injured, abused, sick, abandoned, or in need of rescue, and in cases where it is warranted, we legally investigate and prosecute on the animals' behalf.
We assist in finding suitable homes for unclaimed stray animals and assist owners in finding their animals which have strayed or become lost.
We offer Humane Education Programs, and many resources to help strengthen the bond between humans and their animal companions.
The OMHS is a registered charity, # 11906 4350 RR0001
The support from our generous donors allows us to continue our work helping the homeless, abused & neglected animals of our community.

OMHS is close to capacity and is experiencing increased expenses as a result. The need is so great that one of our caring friends has pledged to match every dollar donated, up to $10,000, in honour of Giving Tuesday. Animals like Dante urgently need your help.
All of our animals undergo full medical exams. A veterinarian performing one such health check on 11-year-old Dante detected a Grade 5 (on a scale of 1 - 6) heart murmur. A cardiac ultrasound determined that his condition, though serious, is manageable with medication. Dante is not yet available for adoption, but you can help Dante and the other vulnerable animals now by donating today at: omhs.ca/GivingTuesday

Here are Lisa, Lydia & Tina! These three were surrendered by their owners as they were unable to care for them. While they are a bit nervous, as guinea pigs can be, they are happy to be handled gently and eagerly come out for veggie and fruit treats.
All three are looking for a home together, will it be with you?
For more information on Lisa, Lydia & Tina, or other small animals that are available, please visit: omhs.ca/adopt/adopt-a-small-animal/

Pauly has been adopted! Pauly was apart of an unexpected litter of kittens that was surrendered to OMHS. He is the sweetest little guy. He loves to play and snuggle and that is exactly what his forever family was looking for. Pauly is lucky to have been adopted by an experienced cat family that was looking to provide a loving home to a new kitten. It was a match made in heaven. Congratulations to Pauly, Sam and Gregory!

A picture tells a thousand words, does Leela's speak to you?
Leela was found by a kind member of the public who called the shelter to come and keep her safe. When no owner was found or came forward, she started getting ready for adoption!
Leela is a luxurious cat, with soft as velvet fur and a long fluffy feather duster tail. She is very affectionate and will rub up against you for pets and cuddles. She can be very friendly with those she meets and playful when you engage her with wand toys or balls that jingle. Leela is not a fan of other cats and would be looking for a home where she is the only cat and a home that can give her all the love in the world!
If you think Leela is the right fit for you, fill out an adoption application (https://omhs.ca/adopt/adopt-a-cat/) and email it to adoptions@omhs.ca. An Adoption Counsellor will be in touch about the next steps!
Any dog or cat adopted from OMHS on a regular diet will go home with a sample bag of @royalcanincanada food and then soon afterwards, a bag and case of Royal Canin food delivered to your door. This will help to ensure your new companion will continue to receive the healthiest start to their life in their new forever home.

Nightshade is here! Don't worry, there's nothing shady about this bunny, she's just as sweet as the flower she's named after.
Nightshade and six of her brothers and sisters were found abandoned outside of a vet clinic. They came into our care and placed in a foster home until they were ready for adoption.
She is still very young and starting to learn about play time, exploration and litter box training! This bunny loves to have space to run and play and would do best with a large pen enclosure, or even free roaming in a home environment. Nightshade loves to be around her people and would be a wonderful addition to any family! Apply to adopt this cutie today: omhs.ca/adopt/adopt-a-small-animal/

OMHS is near capacity and the warm fall means that orphaned kittens are still arriving. Increasingly we are moving our cats and dogs to loving foster homes to provide them with the best possible environment in preparation for adoption, but this further increases our expenses. The need is so great that one of our caring friends has recently pledged to match every dollar donated in honour of #GivingTuesday. omhs.ca/GivingTuesday
Turbo is one of the vulnerable pets receiving life-saving care. A driver heard his faint cries under the hood of their car. Alone and afraid, the tiny kitten had crawled into the engine compartment of the car for warmth. Turbo is one of the lucky ones. He is safe with us and is now recovering from his ordeal. With the rising number of animals entering the shelter we are raising funds this #GivingTuesday to help cover the increased costs. Please consider a gift today and double your impact!

Good things come in small packages so a name like Mini means she's amazing!
Mini is a quiet girl who can be cautious at first, but once she warms up to you she will rub up against you for attention and likes to be petted under the chin. Mini has the softest fur, very pretty eyes and is overall a loveable cat. She is looking for a home that doesn't mind her shyness and that will give her the time she needs to come out of her shell.

Leo's are seen as leaders of the zodiac, so no other name would do for this cat. Meet Leo! He was surrendered to our shelter when his owners could no longer care for him.
Like his name and sign would suggest, Leo is fiercely independent and confident. He can be friendly, but does take some time to get used to you. Once he is comfortable in his new setting and with his new family he will allow you to pick him up, but prefers to have all four feet on the ground. Because of this, Leo is looking for a home with older children who can respect his independent nature. He likes to scratch on vertical scratching posts and play with crinkle balls.
For more info on Leo, or other cats that are available for adoption, visit: omhs.ca/adopt/adopt-a-cat/

We all need some extra help sometimes. This young rock dove came to us Friday night after it was rescued from a barn. The large balls on its toes are actually made up of compacted fecal material, straw, and dirt. The nest area, that was not to be found, was likely cramped and heavily soiled, so as this young bird grew and moved around, the fecal matter was able to build up to form these heavy balls on his toes.
Now old enough to be out of the nest, it fledged (developing wing feathers that are large enough for flight) to spend time on the ground as it learned to fly. But imagine trying to learn to fly with this added weight on your feet!
Needless to say it was not able to keep up with the other birds in the family. After a couple of warm water soaks and some gentle encouragement, the balls were removed. The bird stayed at the shelter to warm up and thoroughly dry off, it had a good meal and then was returned home the next day! We expect it will now be able to take it's first flight soon!
