#MythBustingMonday: Let’s talk muzzles! Muzzles are widely viewed as a punishment for aggressive dogs who can’t be controlled. But the truth is that if your dog pulls on leash, lunges at other dogs, or enjoys eating poo, a basket muzzle might be the solution. And don’t worry — they’re designed in a way that allow dogs to drink, pant, and open their mouth normally. We're curious! Does your dog wear muzzle?
#GivingTuesday kicks off in two days! 🎉🐾 You can start helping animals right now by creating an Instagram fundraiser for Animal Humane Society. 💙 Choose a photo of your pet (or screenshot this image), create a new feed post, and under the caption section select "Add Fundraiser." Thank you for helping us make the day a success!
HAPPY TAIL! 😍🐾 Elisia says, "This is Minnie (previously Ziannia). We had a worry that she wouldn’t get along with our other dog but they clicked right away! We have had some ups and down, and she struggles with separation anxiety but is getting better over time! She has been the perfect fit for our family and brings everyone joy. Her favorite things are laying in bed and across the back of the couch, chewing on her antlers, and can’t forget rolling around in the green grass and car rides! (She’s the best car rider ever, until you open the windows and it fills her with excitement so she runs back and forth to the windows!) Can’t wait to see her reaction to snow this winter!" ❄️ ❄️ ❄️

Happy Thanksgiving! 🥧🍂 Wishing you and your pets a safe and restful holiday. 😊
AHS will be closed today but open Black Friday.
Ahead of the holiday, we have a special message of gratitude to every animal lover and specifically to the family that adopted Birch.
Birch was a senior Bulldog mix who spent weeks overlooked by potential adopters — until Kelsey's family came along. In the shelter, he was always ready with a smile and tail wag for visitors. True to character, he was just as affectionate once he got home. Birch loved napping with their daughter and quickly became a special part of their life.
Sadly, just a month after he'd been adopted, Kelsey contacted us to say that Birch had cancer. His quality of life was declining so quickly that they had to say their final goodbyes to him shortly after his diagnosis.
Kelsey says, "Birch left a hole in our hearts, as he was the sweetest boy we had ever met. We loved him dearly and wished we could have done more to save him from this outcome, but he is now pain-free and running happily, without a cone, in doggie Heaven. Birch had a lasting impact on our family. We plan to keep his memory alive by continuing to look at senior dogs who deserve to have a place called home."
Kelsey and family: We're so sorry for your loss, and incredibly grateful to you for showing Birch the meaning of a loving home during his last few weeks. Thank you.
To all of you who engage in the sometimes heartbreaking business of loving animals: Thank you for fearlessly opening your hearts by adopting, volunteering, donating, and partnering to help shelter animals in so many other ways.
We're filled with gratitude that you choose to be part of this community.
Will you save Ms. Hillary a spot at your Thanksgiving table? 🐶🍂
Picked up as a stray in Memphis, Ms. Hillary is an 8-month-old Pit Bull mix who's excited to experience her first Minnesota winter with a family — especially romps in this snow stuff she's heard about! ❄️
Like many young dogs, she's got energy to spare and enjoys playing Tug-of-War and fetch. Ms. Hillary has a soft side too, leaning on you to keep you close and taking treats ever-so-gently.
Meet fun-loving, sweet Ms. Hillary at our Golden Valley location! Learn more about her at the link in our bio.
Myth-Busting Monday: Let’s talk microchip misconceptions!
Microchips are not GPS tracking devices that will tell you your pet’s location. They’re tiny radio-frequency identifiers that provide your contact information if scanned by a vet, shelter, or police stations equipped with readers.
Microchips are also only effective if registered and up to date. Not sure if that’s the case? You can easily check your pets’ microchip status — find out how at the link in our bio.
The holidays are here! ❄️ With these pointers, your dog and guests are sure to have a safe and happy season. 🐶
Our biggest match of the year ends tomorrow! ❤️🐶 Your gift will be TRIPLED for animals like Gianni.
When Gianni arrived at Animal Humane Society, she barely resembled a dog. The Cocker Spaniel was covered in thick, snarled mats that carried a foul odor.
As our veterinary team groomed her, they made a horrific discovery. Gianni's left front leg was completely immobile, stuck to her torso by matted fur. She would need weeks of physical therapy to be able to walk again. Gianni remained in our care for nearly a month, healing from multiple ear and eye infections and rebuilding the muscle in her leg that had been left to waste away.
Through it all, her spirit remained unbreakable. She greeted everyone with a wagging tail, waiting for the day she could become someone’s beloved pet. And just three hours after she was ready for adoption, Gianna got her wish. She was placed on hold by a family that could give her the unconditional love she deserved.
Because of supporters like you, we can be there for vulnerable animals like Gianni and provide them with the urgent care they need for a better life.
Through tomorrow only, your gift will be TRIPLED up to $50,000 in honor of National Animal Shelter Week!
Can Gianni and the other animals in our care count on you? Give today using the Donate button in our profile.
