Our Centres:

ANIMAL BIRTH CONTROL (ABC) UNIT, PULIANTHOPE

Formerly the Lethal Chamber since 1932, this was where nearly 20,000 homeless dogs were electrocuted every year.

Within a year of its inception, in 1996, PfA put an end to this 60 year old cruel and unscientific practice and implemented the WHO recommended ABC programmes. The Corporation of Chennai allowed PfA to convert the killing chamber into an office, operation theatre and pre and post- operative kennels. Every year 7000 to 8000 dogs are neutered and immunized here, making this one of the most successful ABC programmes in the country.

THE RESCUE AND REHABILITATION UNIT, CHOOLAI

The rescue and rehabilitation centre at Choolai was originally an abandoned, dilapidated corporation cattle depot, unused for 25 years. This centre was given to PfA by the Corporation of of Chennai for animal care on our request. It is dedicated to the care of animals with contagious and acute ailments. The Jaigopal Garodia Clinic for Animals also renders free veterinary care. Everyday nearly 180-230 dogs are treated for skin ailments, distemper, maggot wounds, accident trauma and general debilitation.

PfA JINENDRA HOSPITAL AND SHELTERS FOR ANIMALS, RED HILLS

The PfA Jinendra Hospital and Shelters for Animals is spread over 3.6 acres of land donated to PfA by the Singhvi Chariitable Trust, Chennai. It homes more than 1000 animals – cattle, pigs, horses, monkeys, cats, dogs, sheep, mules and goats rescued from the clutches of a cruel death or human abuse, from laboratories or illegal slaughter or when thrown out of homes.
